IVF- too many eggs=cancellation? Freeze all?

I’ve been taking Meriofert for 7 days and have almost 40 follicles size 9-14mm. I’m worried this could end up as a cancellation due to possibility of ohss as I have smaller ones too. Anyone had a similar experience? Thanks

40 is a LOT! are you on the NHS?
They may cancel given the number and the fact that you still have a few more days to stim before egg collection - I think they trigger when the largest gets to about 19/20mm

If they decide to let you carry on then it will just be a freeze all cycle which to be honest is the best thing for you as your body is not going to have a hospitable environment given the OHSS to be able to do a transfer

Hey! Yes it is on the nhs. I had already been told before we started that it would be likely to have everything frozen which I am completely fine with I would just be gutted if it had to be cancelled all together so was just looking for some good news stories that were similar to make me feel better about it all

I've read of people going to egg collection with 40 follicles before - drink LOADS of water to try and flush everything out and LOADS of protein - that's what my clinic advised when I had early stage OHSS (and that was with 14 follicles but I was on mild stimulation)

I had roughly 30 eggs ranging in sizes 14mm-20mm. It went to a freeze all cycle due to OHSS developing, my ovaries were so large they were touching one another and I was so bloated and uncomfortable heading towards egg collection day. They managed 21 eggs, 5 fertilised and then frozen on day 2. We had a frozen transfer in May with 2 of our 5 embryos which resulted in a BFP and I’m currently 13weeks+5days pregnant. Try not to be disheartened if that happens I can’t imagine how ill I would of felt if I would of had a fresh transfer and OHSS would of got worse. They also say any resulting pregnancy would exasperate OHSS so it would be likely to have a hospital admission due to that. With 40 follicles the likelihood is you’ll be heading for a freeze all and then a frozen transfer at a later date. Try and drink loads of water, I drank a lot of energy drinks such as lucozade sport that is full of electrolytes and luckily didn’t need hospitalisation. I hope all goes well for you.

I had 30 mature eggs and 42 follicles at collection - my cycle was a freeze all. Clinics threshold for freeze all cycle was 21 over the ‘line’.

Oh and we transferred two months later and I’m currently 18 weeks pregnant with a little boy from the eggs collected Smile

Aww thanks for the positive stories guys! Delighted for you all. I have a scan tomorrow so fingers crossed the doctors are happy enough!

I didn't have as many as you but I had about 30 follicles. Nobody ever mentioned cancelling. I was never in any pain and I drank 3 litres of water daily. I got 27 eggs but never got OHSS. So drink lots of water!!

I had to do freeze-all. I can’t remember how many follicles there were, but 30-something eggs were collected and we ended up with 20 3-day in freezer!

I was also nhs and due to funding I had to wait until the next financial year for first FET, a little over 6 months later. It was actually a relief to have a break!

First round FET had 2 transferred and one has taken, I’m now about 17 weeks.

The clinic were quite pro-FET and said the rates are good, plus my body felt so much better!

Good luck OP!

Hey everyone. thanks for everyone’s responses. I ended up going ahead with the collection, 27 follicles removed, 19 of which are eggs. Now have the horrible wait to find out if any of them fertilise or survive to day 3/5 😬 x
