How many of your collected eggs made it to blastocyst?

Out of my 8 eggs collected last week only 2 have made to blastocyst which they are freezing. Was hoping for more 🙁

First cycle, 15 eggs only 1 blast! Was a good quality one and we had a bfp but miscarried.

Second time, 14 eggs only 2 left on day 3 both were fragmenting and only 7 cell, transferred both on day 3 and have a 5yr old now.

Also was in my early 20's at that point, embryologist and consultant couldn't understand why we had nothing left to freeze, they said for my age they would of expected better quality 🤷🏻‍♀️

Most IVF / ICSI cycles only produce 1 blastocyst. Only a very few produce enough to freeze.

27 collected
25 mature
19 fertilised
15 made it to day 5 and PGD tested for our condition
11 unaffected.
One didn't thaw, currently 9 weeks with another and 9 in the freezer.

Wow @Ginandtonic31 that's an amazing result?! Do you mind me asking what clinic that was with?

Teddybear45 · 12/08/2019 08:22

@Ginandtonic31 - really good result considering the last one! Was this from your second cycle earlier in the year or the third? It took a couple of egg collections for me to get anywhere near that fettilisation right.

Ginandtonic31 · 12/08/2019 08:23

@itwasalovelydreamwhileitlasted I was under Guys in London for PGD so had collection and transfer there but Sheffield was the satellite so they did all my medication, scans, etc. I couldn't fault them tbh.

Ginandtonic31 · 12/08/2019 08:24

@Teddybear45 it was my second collection.

iamadalek2 · 12/08/2019 08:30

10 collected, only 2 made it and you only need 1 so we had a boy! Good luck xx

Si1ver · 12/08/2019 08:35

6 collected
5 fertilised
1 transferred
2 frozen
1 six month old asleep in my arms

CucinaBreakfast · 12/08/2019 09:12

18 eggs
10 blastocysts
5 frozen (5 discarded after pgd testing)

Just takes one!

Numbers aren't everything - some ladies get lots and are unsuccessful, some get just one and are successful.

From my last cycle I had 13 eggs collected, 11 mature, 5 fertilised and only 1 blast. Thankfully, that 1 blast is going strong at 10 weeks pregnant.

Teddybear45 · 12/08/2019 09:26

@CornishMaid1 - very true. ‘Successful IVF’ means live birth. I know many women who have only managed to produce 2 eggs which turned into very poor quality blastocysts (not good enough to freeze) but then turned into live twins / triplets when implanted anyway. The clinic then takes that as a win - how many blastocysts a woman produces / fertilisation rates etc doesn’t matter in the long run.
