Anti depressants

Hi I am ttc at age 39 and had fertility tests which have come back fine. They want to flush my tubes... has anyone had this? Also my DH has been prescribed anxiety tablets which I have read affects mobility of sperm count and makes a man infertile while he's on them. Has anyone ttc while their partner has been on them and had success?

My DH was on anti depressants and it absolutely nuked his sperm not to mention killed his sex drive

6 months after coming off them we got pregnant

@itwasalovelydreamwhileitlasted did his sperm get tested to know it was low? I'm gutted cause I'm 39

Hi @dobzyj yeah I made him get tested.....I never really "agreed" with him being put on them....he went to the doctor with flu and came away being told he was depressed with a prescription for anti depressants!

We were ttc at that time and everything I read said it wasn't good for male fertility - DH and his doctors tried to tell me it would be fine - luckily he agreed to testing - results came back with a high count but poor motility and poor morphology. We were referred for ivf - That whole process took about 12 months - towards the end DH came off his pills without telling me (or doctors advice - yeah that was a fun holiday!) and low and behold six months later we got pregnant naturally the day we were due to start ivf - follow up tests on him showed a massive improvement

By the way I've also had my tubes flushed - twice - my results came back perfectly fine - however I still ended up having two ectopic pregnancies in 18 months and had to have both tubes removed - I'm 36 and permanently infertile now but we do still have ivf at least as an option for us

@itwasalovelydreamwhileitlasted ahhh god I'm sorry you ended up with two ectopic. I'm 39 and now have to wait until he comes off them in 6 months unless it naturally happens. We were told it may not be an issue as a std guy should have 39 million sperm per ejacualte and 32% progressive motility but he's got 31% but of 264 million so it was a good result. Even if he loses half of his count and half of his motility with the pills it still may work and I'm due my tubes flushed in sept so fingers crossed. The one thing we didn't get the results for were morphology so I may ask the consultant for that. Was it the morphology that caused the ectopics for you or was this after he came off?
I'm glad you can still go down the ivf route. When does that start?
How did you feel when your tubes were flushed.... does it hurt?

Lots of people take antidepressants with no effect on sperm production, it's best to speak with the consultant or your GP about the one he is specifically on

dobzyj · 27/07/2019 23:36

@Lauren83 I was hoping that's the case. I've given the details to consultant so fingers crossed. Are you ttc?
