Where to buy ivf fertility drugs vs clinic?

Our private ivf clinic have given cost estimate of drugs we need to buy tper below and it’s well over £2,600! Is there anywhere else I could get?

Shopping list
Cetrotide 0.25mg injections x9 = £301.50
GonalF 900iu pens x6 (for 12 shots of 450) = £2,250
Gonasi 5000iu injection x2 = £61.18
Delivery = £20

I've heard ASDA and fertility2u are cheaper however your clinic might charge you a one off fee to write the prescription. Also we looked around and actually our clinic was cheaper - many clinics have an agreement with private drug companies that they "mark up" drugs to dissuade people going elsewhere

I would also say we had to get last minute extra drugs and changes to medication which would have been really really stressful if we weren't getting them from the clinic

Ah thanks, I think I’ll just stick with clinics then as want to avoid the added stress

Cetrotide are £15 per injection through fertility2u and £50 delivery charge. Will work our much cheaper for you for that drug alone.
I have used them a few times now and they have been great - totally hassle free.

Thanks Jemima I’ll try get quote for whole lot and see if it works out cheaper as I’ll have to pay the clinic for prescription too.

Asda was really easy - take script to clinic from pharmacy, they had drugs to collect next working day. It was £800 for mine I think.

I've also had some from Asda. You just collect in store. It's really worth phoning around and getting quotes as some meds are cheaper from some places than others.
I can't believe your clinic is charging you for a prescription?! That seems a bit off!!!

Most pharmacies are cheaper than buying directly from the clinic. Get a few quotes. You might be able to get some drugs from one pharmacy and some from another.

Silly question but will I need to have three separate prescriptions for each thing? I’m going to contact both Asda and fertility2u when I get moment today.

Also when we saw nurse as to plan I said to them I would just get one cetrotide to have on cd2 after baseline rather than order it all as dependent if period would show or otherwise I’ve wasted money. I’m thinking I get one cetrotide elsewhere then order rest for next day collection hopefully. I only take one injection for cd2-cd10 then -do you think that works? How did you do it with drug ordering if/when period did start for ivf to begin cd2

Sorry if I’m babbling. All I can think about is that ivf drugs bill clinic gave and if I can save some serious loola I’d like to try. 🙂

I went to ASDA. I phoned up and read out my prescription and they called me when it was ready. I think we saved about 700 quid.

@Kitkat369 I think ordering medication one at a time is really dangerous - my period started unexpectedly over a weekend several days earlier luckily my clinic kept stocks of medication as my fertility 2u delivery wasn't booked until days later. (I was also trying to save money in case I happened to get pregnant on my last try and didn't want to pay for the drugs too early!)

I've seen so many posts on here and other ivf support groups of people who have run out etc of medication and can't get a next day delivery/weekend delivery and are panicking. Also if you mess up doing an injection - easily done as some of them are complicated and you might accidentally drop or damage a needle or not get it fully injected and that will leave you short (also seen that posted before and it actually completely ruined one woman's cycle as it was the last evening before trigger - broke the needle - had no spares and ended up with no blastocysts as all the timings were now off)

You don't need the extra stress during this time for the sake of saving a few quid
Also my clinic changed number of stimming days due to how I was responding and also had to swap me from ovitrelle to a buserilin trigger last minute due to contracting OHSS but all easily managed as clinic sorted medication out straight away

Well I called around Asda/Fertility 2U and it costs moe so just tosh clinic. Maybe I’ll get two of meds just in case beware for real ordering.

I bought from where my clinic recommended and regretted it. I spent a fortune. For my FET found boots good.

Still have £300+ of drugs in my fridge as can’t bring myself to get rid ( I’m 23+6).
