Follicle count

Hi,

We started our fertility appointments a few weeks ago following finding out my DH has azoospermia (which wasn't unexpected news). Today I had my baseline scan and found out I only have 6 follicles one one side and 3 on the other. The lady doing my scan said this could be age related (I'm 30) and that it's likely my body is having to work hard to ovulate. I'm completely blindsided because we have always worked on the mindset that my fertility is normal so half the battle is won. The only blood test my gp did before referring us was a 21 day progesterone which was really good. I have lots of tests due to be taken next cycle.

I'm just after some insight from people who have been through treatment with similar follicle counts. Is this going to have a huge impact?! I don't know my AMH level, they didn't think it worth checking at my first appointment becuase I'm guessing they where in the same mindset as me!

Thanks for reading

Hi OP. Not exactly the same as you, but I only have one ovary and at my follicle count prior to starting IVF they only counted 3 - 4 follicles on it. Like you I'm in my early thirties so had expected more and I was really concerned that I wouldn't get many eggs. However they put me on a high dose of stims and I ended up getting 16 eggs on my first round and 17 on my second, which even the doctors seemed surprised by! So I would say from my experience it doesn't necessarily correlate to the numbers of eggs collected, but it helps them decide on the best protocol for you.

Thanks @sunshineandsea . I know we are all different but that has really put my mind at ease!
