Day 3 embryo grading

We are all set for a day 5 embryo transfer this weekend. Our update today told us that our embryos are a real mix. Some grade 2, some grade 3 and all different number of cells. How much does day 3 grading matter?

Not at all. It’s what you end up with on day 5 (if indeed you end up with anything) that counts.

We were told ours weren't great at day 3 but they improved overnight and actually went to blastocyst stage on day 4

It's getting to blastocyst stage which is the most important - my friend had several going strong at day 3 but sadly got none to day 5 - day 3-5 is when sperm quality takes over from egg quality

@Sugarplummy84 We were not given a grade on day three but were told we had 5 eggs at healthy 8 cell division and were told to go for Day 5 ET.

We were so positive going into our ET then.......

Got to day 5 and we were left with only 1 egg that wasn't even suitable for freezing and we transferred that.

Sadly our 1st IVF cycle in April was a BFN and I'm still recovering Sad

Quality of embryos plagued our ivf - we had time lose so could see exactly what happened. Cycle 1 we had 14 fertilised, 6 still in the running on day 3 and 2 poor grade blasts on day 5 - transferrred one and bfn.

Second cycle we surgical retrieved sperm - 13 fertilised on day 1, by day 3 similar picture - one 8 cell, one 7 cell and two others 6 cell. We transferred the 7 and 8 cell on day 3 - one of them is now my 4 month old and the two 6 cells made it to freezabke blasts - fingers crossed a sibling for him in the future!!!

Good luck
