IVF process

Hi,

Yesterday we were told that IVF is our next option, we’re at the Centre for Life in Newcastle. We have booked into the consent clinic on 1st July but wondering what the process is after this and how soon treatment will start?

Are you going via the NHS? The timescales vary from area to area - my NHS IVF journey from referral to being at point of collecting medication was over 9 months - some areas it's a lot less others much longer (Peterborough area has NO funding for IVF at the moment so I know people waiting years there)

If you're going private you can literally start straight away

They'll test both you and your partner - on the NHS you have to wait for appointment letters for everything which is what drags it out - then they'll discuss type of ivf - ICSI or standard IVF and also whether they'll do short or long protocol ivf (most NHS so long)

Ah okay makes sense. We were referred about a year ago, diagnosed with PCOS in January and they've done cycle tracking with me which found I do ovulate but as we've been TTC for 2 years they said IVF is our next option. I haven't been offered any treatment for my PCOS all they've said is to lose weight. My BMI is 28 and I know I need to lose weight but I'm not huge, I'm a size 14 but only that for the last 8 months, before that I was a comfortable 12.

From then agreeing IVF and completing consent forms was it pretty quick?

If you've done all the investigations then it should be just a matter of waiting for you're next cycle unless you have to attend one of the information evenings first?

Also be aware that if your BMI creeps to 30+ they will stop treatment until it gets lower and I've heard they can make you wait 6 months

Depends on area. Might be worth asking your clinic. Some have wait lists, others don't.

@itwasalovelydreamwhileitlasted Yeah we have to attend an appointment to go through consent forms and they ask about research I think, typical that it's on the exact date that we've been trying for 2 years!

I'm hoping my weight might be down to a good level by the time 1st July comes around
