DHEA and testosterone levels - any experiences?

So I read It Starts with an Egg, googled manically and tentatively started taking DHEA about 8 weeks ago.

But I'm wondering if anyone has received any guidance from a consultant about DHEA and the optimum levels of testosterone and free testosterone that one should be aiming for? Or has found anything on the web about it?

From my reading it looks like it's a bit of a balancing act. You want to improve free testosterone/androgens without going overboard. As too much testosterone could be counter-productive and throw everything out of whack.

I have been testing my hormone levels with Medichecks. My testosterone is now elevated - above normal range in fact - but my free T has only improved a bit because I have high SHBG. Without an actual nmol/L target I'm not sure if it's all going to plan or if I should stop.

I am also due to start IVF soon and I don't want to mess everything up with my self-medicating.

Just to note - I got a chemical pregnancy this past cycle after taking DHEA, so it must be doing something.

Happy DHEA stories welcomed!

I'm in a similar boat, so not much advice yet! Have started DHEA and just about to get tested from Medicheck, was there not some ranges in the book? What have your doctors said? Are you taking 25mg three times daily?

Due to see my consultant in a few weeks so will go armed with my results and see if they have any advice (I'm not holding my breath) I feel like I've already been written off! HmmAngry

Will be interested to see if anyone else had experience of this

My consultant recommended it but they didn’t test levels. I only took fir a month before my successful cycle - didn’t notice any ill effects.

@scatterolight there is a Facebook group for the book, you could join and try asking there? Sometimes the author does reply to posts so it is worth a try.

Thanks ladies. I've now joined that FB group Sparrow, thanks for the recommendation!

Mayz - I started on 50mg a day and tested after 4 weeks. This had sent my testosterone very high (and moved my free T up to a good level) so I decided to take a break for 3 weeks. I'm now doing 25mg a day.

I think 75mg would send my testosterone off the charts. I wish I knew what a safe level was!
