What cd did you have antral follicle count and what’s your AMH?

After two miscarriages ttc #2, I’ve been having some tests done and have got high FSH of 11.6 and my AMH is v low at 2 pmol. I’m 34.

I’ve received an appointment for a pelvic US, transvaginal pelvic US and a urinary tract US which look like they’ll fall on cd4 (if my next cycle is the same as usual). Wondering what cycle day you were told to have your AFC done, if you were told what difference this makes and what other tests you had at the same time?

I’m also going to ask for FSH and estradiol to be repeated in same day of scans.
Thanks 🤗

I've had AFC done at various points in cycles over the years and it doesn't really matter what cycle day as they're not looking for a dominant follicle they're looking to see how many you have queued up in your ovaries. Last time I had mine done I had 10 on the right and 5 on the left (AMH of 12.9 at 35 years) - I had a ruptured ectopic on the left last year so having less that side wasn't a surprise as I suspected damage due to emergency surgery. As it happens my left actually responded better to the ivf drugs in the end so you can never tell!

As above don’t think Day matters for AFC.

No point repeating fsh - they always take your highest reading so things can only get worse!

My fsh was 11.8, age 31, AMH 8, can’t renember AFC but letter from consultant said “reassuringly good”.

Got 20+ eggs both cycles.

AFC better marker than fsh and amh. Best marker is having the drugs and seeing how you respond though! Fir one baby and two Frosties.

Thanks both for your replies!

Ok that’s good - I can stop stressing about whether it’s being done at the best time then....Can’t decide if it’s a good thing or not that you can’t tell which way it’ll go.

Good point about repeat tests - although I don’t think my AMH can’t get much worse (surely!!)

@reesespieces are you going through NHS as they have a minimum AMH at which they'll treat - most will say that low AMH = poor response.
You may need to look at clinics which specialise in low AMH - Create is one of them - I'm with them (not because of AMH but because I wanted to do mild ivf) and have found them very good so far

Ilikeviognier · 30/05/2019 12:33

OP I had almost identical results as you at age 34. Fsh was 12- amh was 2.8. Despite this I got pregnant 3 times and had 2 live births - one of the live births was through ivf, so low amh doesn’t mean you can’t get pregnant or have a successful pregnancy.

My afc was 6. I’d agree no point getting it redone as they take your worst fsh reading.

@itwasalovelydreamwhileitlasted - at the moment it’s a bit of a combination, started seeing a private consultant after second miscarriage as I didn’t want to wait around and NHS won’t investigate until you’ve had three in a row.... But both my consultant and GP are supportive so having as much of the blood tests, scans etc as possible on the NHS. If the recommendation ends up being ivf I know we’ll hv to fund as we already hv a little boy. Thanks v much for the Create recommendation - are they only in London please (I’m in Leeds)?

@Ilikeviognier - v similar results! And so good to hear a positive outcome despite them - congrats 🤗! Current issue seems to be staying pregnant....

I was similar except I reached the unfortunate threshold of 3 miscarriages so NHS did do tests but I didn't actually find them that useful (maybe because they didn't find anything!) we moved on to IVF to at least try and screen out any poor embryos

Create have a few clinics nationwide - I think Manchester is probably the closest to you though

Ilikeviognier · 30/05/2019 19:13

OP- I did my successful ivf at Seacroft Leeds.

I hope things go your way soon. X

reesespieces · 30/05/2019 19:59

@itwasalovelydreamwhileitlasted - sorry to hear you reached the joyful number 3 😕. I know it’s frustrating if an (easily dealt with) reason isn’t found and everyone is saying that’s a good thing but you just want to know why! Ah ok thanks, Manchester would be fine.

@Ilikeviognier - ah perfect, good to know, that’s definitely close enough. Thanks v much. xx

If you don’t mind me asking, what kind of ivf did you both do pls?

Can be done any time but follicular phase possibly better for assessing uterine cavity, my AMH 2.2, AFC 7, FSH 9/19/27

Ilikeviognier · 31/05/2019 20:52

OP- just the regular Ivf - not mild Ivf if that’s what you mean. Was on the max dosage though and still only got 2 eggs.....thought it was all over tbh, but it worked anyway despite the shit numbers. It’s all about egg quality I guess.
