IVF ran out of Clexane injections and can’t get more

I’ve ran out of Clexane (6dp5dt) because the clinic didn’t provide it and told me everything was there, with Easter I won’t get more now until mid next week. That’s 5 days of no Clexane injection.

Will this hinder my chance of a successful pregnancy? I was meant to take it until 8 weeks.

Your GP should be able to provide an emergency supply if you explain what has happened.

Mommaof2x · 17/04/2019 20:49

Unfortunately not because I had it abroad and now every pharmacy I have spoken to said no because it’s not a original copy only email, so I have to wait for this postal Sad

Can you get the clinic to fax the prescription through? My local pharmacy accepts prescription via fax - I think most still do.

78percentLindt · 17/04/2019 21:23

Strictly speaking, pharmacies should not accept faxed scripts. They often do IF they know the prescriber and are guaranteed to get the original script within 72 hours. I can't imagine anyone would do it for an overseas prescriber. It also depends which country and whether the prescriber's registration is reciprical with UK.
The only suggestion I can make is try an on line consultation and see if you can get them delivered sooner, if your GP won't prescribe for you.

Mommaof2x · 17/04/2019 21:32

Yes I’ve found they don’t take Fax. The clinic seem to think if I’m taking aspirin I should be okay, but I can’t help wonder why they would prescribe them for 8 weeks if it’s okay to miss 5. Has anyone had a successful ivf cycle without blood thinners?

I may try the GP but I feel they won’t as they will say we don’t know your private clinics protocol

Is there a specific reason you've been prescribed blood thinners? They certainly aren't a standard part of every clinic's protocol so yes, there will be many people out there who've had successful cycles without blood thinners. Best of luck!

Are you in London by any chance? Try Ali's Pharmacy or Sherlock Homes Pharmacy.

Mommaof2x · 18/04/2019 12:06

@Persipan that’s what i was hoping to hear, my clinic give them as precaution to everyone I think

@twinkledag thanks - Ali’s pharmacy are the ones who said they will post on Tuesday arrive hopefully Wednesday.

In the uk you only get blood thinners if there is a medical need ie ovarian hyper stimulation syndrome.

Duckee · 18/04/2019 12:14

I didn't have blood thinners when I had ivf and I had a successful round. Has it been prescribed as a matter of course or because you need them due to a medical condition?

miamiibiza · 18/04/2019 12:15

@Mommaof2x I'm 14 weeks pregnant following IVF and I didn't have blood thinners. Try not to worry, although I know that's difficult

twinkledag · 18/04/2019 12:17

Great news @Mommaof2x

Mommaof2x · 18/04/2019 15:56

I did have 25 follicles maybe that’s why. I guess I have to just hope for the best now. Have to wait for Ali’s

@Mommaof2x are you on oestrogen like progynova? (Thickens womb lining) if you are you need blood thinners as the drug has side effects of DVT....
