Anyone have different problems second time round?

We have severe male factor and are lucky enough to have a DS from our fourth round of icsi (third transfer). Have done three rounds since trying for a sibling but no luck-one chemical and one early miscarriage. Had a cyst over the past two FETs which hasn't disappeared and required investigation so been to see a new gynae specialist who also does fertility and they suspect issues with me- possibly endo and definitely a number of cysts. We have seen 10+ fertility specialists over the years and I've been scanned over 50 times with no implication previously that we have any female factors. New specialist said things can develop over time/be exacerbated by the fertility drugs so could be that? Just seems unlikely to have always been there given nothing has been mentioned previously and we've had a successful pregnancy 🤔

Now have a laparoscopy and hysteroscopy scheduled for next month which I am really not looking forward to.

Not sure why I'm posting really, just feeling a bit lost and need to get my head round things and wondering what the long term health implications may be and our chances at a successful IVF once gynae issues are treated....

I just wanted to let you know that I had a bad reaction to clomid - it caused me to grow a medium sized fibroid which could become a problem in the future. And that's just clomid!!

So yes, the drugs can cause huge problems. The more you have, the higher the risks of this happening. It sucks. I'm really sorry you're going through this.

Thanks @physicskate it's nice to know I'm not the only one! I'm sorry you went through that. Did you have it removed and continue with fertility treatment?

It wasn't removed. My ivf was successful. Scans during pregnancy showed the fibroid continued to grow. Larger fibroids take more blood supply from the uterus and are associated with miscarriage once foetus reaches a certain size. They can also be associated with inability to implant. So I anticipate further problems if we do try for a second. (Gave birth less than five weeks ago, so not thinking about a number 2 just yet).

Hi @KatnissMellark. Sorry to hear you are going through this. I’m at a much earlier stage than you and having my first egg collection tomorrow. They saw a suspected endometrioma on my initial scans at the fertility clinic last year so I got sent for a lap. Just wanted to say I also was very nervous about it but it was worth it to have my endo diagnosed officially and treated. Good luck with yours -I hope this will provide you with answers and after that you manage to conceive you much Longed for sibling. I know that endo does grow and develop overtime and I don’t think all the meds are great for it. Good luck. It’s a pain but laps really are the gold standard.

@mouse1234567 thanks for the reassurance, I'm not too worried, I've been through 4 egg collections (or 5? ...worrying when you start to lose count!) and childbirth so I know how to do pain. It just feels like another blow, I'm desperate to be pregnant again, to have another child and a sibling for my son. It's absolutely not the same as primary infertility which felt so much more desperate but the heartache and worry just never goes away

Yes I know what you mean -it just holds everything up all these procedures doesn’t it! I was told yesterday at my final scan before egg collection that I have developed a polyp and now need a hysteroscopy so no fresh transfer -it will have to be frozen.

It often feels two steps forward and one back doesn’t it. The wait time for my lap wasn’t too bad and the recovery time was max a few weeks so hopefully it won’t hold you back too long.

Ah mouse that is rubbish, I'm sorry! Are you trying for your first? Egg collection is not too bad in my experience, I've been absolutely fine every time except one where I had pain for a week or so. 🤞 for you.

Thank you-it is frustrating but I have quite a few follicles too and feel pretty sicky and rubbish so perhaps they would have cancelled it anyway because of OHSS risk. I’m trying to convince myself this will be best in the long run and I will be healthier to receive the embryo but it is all infuriatingly slow.

Yes first cycle ttc no 1 -first egg collection -I’m sure it will be fine but I’m starting to get a bit nervous!

mouse- the best advice I was ever given was to see IVF as a course of treatment- don't expect it to work first time, but it probably will work eventually. It's so hard not to get your hopes up and every set back is horrible. Best of luck
