AMH help

Can someone help with explaining why I need this test?
We are unexplained secondary and my consultant says I don't need this test as I ovulate myself on a regular-ish cycle (29-35 days)

Anyone with more experience understand if this is correct or not?

Unsure about this, I'm on my 3rd IVF cycle and my understanding is that AMH tests ovarian reserve. It gives Drs an idea as to how you might respond to IVF i.e. how many eggs you're capable of producing.

The 21 day progesterone test checks for ovulation.

How long have you been TTC? Are you having any other tests? Maybe he thinks that you need more time to try to conceive naturally?

Did they see several eggs when you had transvaginal?
All my bloods were fine, it was when I had a transvaginal my consultant saw that there weren’t many eggs.. which the Amh test backed up. They used this to give the stimms dose. It cost us £30 privately through our clinic so was worth having the Knowledge

She says I don't need it as I am.producing eggs as I ovulate. I imagine it's because I'm.not going down the IVF route so they don't need that info?

I've had scans that show follicles developing normally at different times in a cycle. I know I've got one ovary that is 'polysitic' though I don't have the syndrome.

She offered to do the test (£90) but she said it would be for my own piece of mind only as I don't need it.

I have 2 children that were conceived without intervention. Maybe that's why

Has this come from the NHS - they don't routinely do AMH testing as part of fertility testing?

I ovulate every month but I have a low AMH and have been diagnosed with premature ovarian failure - as a result have been advised to use donor eggs for ivf (on our second round now).
They probably just want to rule it out if you're currently unexplained.

No idea why your consultant is saying this...

On my scans they could see lots of follicles and my day 21 test said I was ovulating. When I paid privately for an amh test though I got a low reading. So it doesn't always follow what they can see on scan/whether your ovulating and egg reserve

@Minibow without the test you have no idea what your egg reserve is. If it's low then the egg quality you have will be poor so even if you are ovulating it could well be why you aren't conceiving

@PrayingandHoping Is that the case - if you have low amh all your eggs are low quality? My amh was 3.1 just before I naturally conceived my son but am having trouble ttc #2 so maybe my son was my last good egg then :(

No it's not the case that the eggs are low quality at all. Low amh can mean you just don't have many left and may be a poor responder to fertility treatment.

That's what the consultants say.... (I saw more than 1). But they said that would be the average overall quality. Not necessarily ALL your eggs if you know what I mean. There could be good ones left and then some poorer ones.

@juneybean I saw 3 diff consultants and they all told me that the overall average quality of the eggs would be poorer when u have low AMH. There may still be good quality ones but medical studies said that the lower your egg reserve the lower the average quality

PrayingandHoping that makes sense about the averages. My consultant was more concerned with the FSH and LH levels and did not seem to think low amh would get in the way of successfully conceiving, although he has given me a low dose of Clomid to help things along.

Minibow if your consultant is happy you are ovulating i.e your 21 day blood tests are fine and there is sign of ovulation on your ultrasounds, then I don’t see a reason to get your amh levels done. I only found mine out as they were done as part of a fertility mot package. As I mentioned above I had low amh before I conceived my son and I got pregnant on the third month of trying, and had a normal problem free pregnancy.
