Low progesterone

Me s my husband have been ttc for around 18months, I got pregnant last year but had an early mc. My Dr seemed confident I'd get pregnant again soon but still nothing. I haven't always had regular periods but the last 2 years they've been every 29-31 days, although occasionally some months I have mid cycle bleeding which I've been back and forth to the doctors about, had scans swabs etc but they just put it down to a weird period. So I've just got the results to my 21 day bloods and it says I've got low progesterone and probably didn't ovulate this month. Dh has to have tests then he's going to refer us.
I've researched loads about low progesterone and it all seems to make sense for me with the spotting, the Mc and struggling to get positive Opks.
Has anyone else had anything like this or any advice/success?

I know I'm not going to be any use to you with information, as I'm not too sure what it means for us either!
I have a problem with my progesterone and not ovulating. I have other probs too, such as pcos, so I have been referred to a fertility specialist/gyn.
If nobody else advises you, I will let you know when I ask the question! My appt is on Friday. I'm interested to know too. Think they give you medication to try and make you ovulate? Not too sure if you'd need to go to your GP to get referred though as I've heard some GP's will prescribe such meds, but others won't, like mine!

Do you have a short luteal phase? You can get progesterone suppositories privately and they don’t cost much. If your GP won’t prescribe, try a private GP or fertility clinic.

Are you checking what day you're actually ovulating? Day 21 is basing it on ovulating on day 14 of your cycle. For example, I generally have a 28 day cycle, but I don't ovulate till day 17 or even 18, which will affect my blood result.

Thanks. How long did it take you to get referred? I’m thinking of going private if it’s going to take weeks and weeks. I’m so stressed out and just cry all the time.

I was doing ovulation tests for a while but I would struggle to get a positive so I gave up and then I fell pregnant so thought well I must be ovulating (but obviously not all the time). I feel like iv wasted so much time, until last week I had no clue about low progesterone.

The wait just to be seen by the consultant is up to 26 weeks!!! So, I've paid private for my consultation and then they give you the option of being referred back to nhs for any treatment or stay private. I will have to go to nhs for the actual treatment.
I have waited 3 weeks for my appointment privately, but that's only because consultant is only there on Fridays and she had 2 weeks holiday (typical).
My first appointment with the gp was 9/1/19 after just over a year ttc and knowing something was up with my cycles. I had bloods and transvaginal scan which showed I wasn't ovulating and confirmed pcos. I've really pushed for appts though and have rung up myself to get appts, otherwise you will be waiting ages for them to send you letters etc. I just asked gp where the referrals were going and rung direct.
Good luck with everything. Perhaps if you have a prob with ovulation and nothing else, your gp will be willing to prescribe?
If you go private, have a look as some will want a gp referral. I've paid £140 for consultation then will prob have to wait on nhs for treatment but will pay for meds if that's all I'm told I need xx

Hi, I’m so pleased I’ve found this post! Ive been ttc for over a year now without any luck I went to the doctors in January and had day 2 and 21 blood tests it came back that my progesterone levels were low, I spoke to the doctor and he thought I was ovulating as my cycles are very regular but said he wanted to refer me for more tests I’m 32 now my partner has been for a semen analysis today and we have a 2ww for those results still trying In the meantime! Used pre-seed for first time this month I’m due AF at the weekend and if I’m honest with myself I don’t think I’ll be getting a BFP i hate the disappointment each month my friends have all seemed to have got pregnant so easily

Oh I know it’s so disappointing every month getting af. My friends are exactly the same getting pregnant straight away without even having to try properly.
I get regular periods every time month and maybe I do ovulate sometimes but not every month.
What’s pre seed? Good luck this month you never know it’s always when you don’t expect things they happen xx

I've ordered pre seed to try too! It's a fertility lubricant that mimics your own fertile fluids (if I'm on about the same thing!).
I've seen a few people trying it and one recently said ttc for ages then tried that for first time and fell pregnant!! Maybe it's a coincidence, but as we all know too well, anything is worth a try!! X

Sorry to crash your post but I have just been prescribed Cyclogest suppositories to help increase my proeastrogen levels after having tests as we have been ttc for over a year.

My bloods show I may not be ovulating and therefore prescribed before being referred to fertility.

I have a 3 cycle prescription and a check up after.

Has anyone else had this, was there any benefits to using them? Thanks x

I had a Day 21 test and my progesterone was 26. GP didn't really explain what this meant, other than it was "low". She also said they don't do CD2-4 test, and no mention of Cyclogest or any other treatment. She just gave DH a referral form for SA and said once that's back she'd "package" us off with a referral. I am having another CD21 test later this month.

It seems the level of testing offered by GPs really varies, and I've seen others have had scans and all sorts done too. I'm not sure if I should look into having more testing done privately.

I would say iv had to really be on the case to get the prescription for Cyclogest without being referred. And to be honest nothing has really been explained clearly to me.

I had so many bloods to try determine my correct levels as they varied so much even though my cycles quite consistent.

My dr said anything below 15 was low and mine was 2 in one instance and 16 in another.. I cant remember exactly the top of the scale but it was certain for me not likely to be ovulating.

I have had ultrasounds and internal scan to rule out PCOS but even now I'm still unsure what the Cyclogest will do..

Hi,me and my partner have been ttc for just over a year now, had blood tests done all came back fine apart from the progesterone which was 14 which is low from what I’ve been told. Had an ultrasound scan done and that was all fine. Now I’ve just been referred to a fertility specialist. Does anyone know what will happen next? Thank you.
