FET drugs cost

I'm hoping to start a FET soon, I have no idea what protocol I will be on or what drugs I'll be taking yet. How much did your FET drugs cost? Just trying to prepare. Hoping they are a lot less than the fresh cycle.

Hey @LillyLeaf, mine cost £13! This is because I had a natural FET where they track your ovulation and do transfer in time with your natural cycle. They only give you a shot of hcg directly after the transfer (in my case Ovitrelle) and you’re not even required to use those terrible progesterone pessaries that everybody speaks so fondly of!

My clinic opt for natural FET if you have regular cycles. I have to say I was dubious and I felt my body would need extra medication to achieve a pregnancy, having never had a sniff of a BFP in over 2 years of trying. However, it worked first time and I am expecting a baby in July.

If your clinic offer you a natural FET I would say go for it. Not only is there minimal cost but it really is so much kinder on the body, not having to use any additional medications.

If they decide that another approach is best for you, I think the cost of drugs will be much less because you’re not paying for the stimulation drugs, which by far seem to be the most expensive. It may be worthwhile calling your clinic to get an idea of what they would plan to do for your FET.

@windy2909 thanks. I think I would be really nervous doing a natural cycle even though I do have regular cycles. I don't have much trust in my body at the moment, I just miscarried my first fresh cycle so I'm not sure how quickly I will get back to normal and I do want to crack on with the FET asap. How often were you scanned? Was it similar to the stims/fresh cycle?

Not sure of the drugs cost but my whole FET cycle in 2017 was £950, paying privately in an NHS clinic.

@TryingMyBestToday luckily we've already paid for the treatment as part of a multi cycle package with Access Fertility so we don't need to worry about that, it's just the drugs we need to pay for now, but it looks like it shouldn't be too much.

I think I paid about £100 for the medication for a FET. It’s definitely much much cheaper than a fresh cycle.

@LillyLeaf - sorry to hear about your miscarriage. The stats are leaning towards better success rates for FETs now and in some countries they freeze all and do not offer fresh transfers at all. Here’s hoping your body will be well recovered when you have your FET and you get a better outcome.

I was completely the same about not trusting my body. I did however just go with it and put all of my trust in my clinic. See what yours says and remember they’re the experts.

I started having bloods on day 11 of cycle and every 2 twos until they detected LH surge, which for me was on day 15, so I had 3 blood tests in total. They then counted the next day as ovulation day and had me in 5 days later for transfer. I wasn’t scanned at all. They relied entirely on the bloods to track LH, progesterone and oestrogen levels. As I said, I was not convinced W would work....but it did! Have you got a review meeting set up to discuss options for FET?

I had my transfer Thursday ( had MMC first fresh cycle). So far I’ve spent around £200. I’m taking a lot.

Still so much cheaper than IVF. I lost count when I went past £1000
