Thin lining on day 10 of FET cycle - any advice?

Hi all,

Wondering if anyone has any advice for my situation. I had a scan on day 10 this morning, ahead of a planned FET this cycle but my lining is only 3.2 with no sign of a triple stripe 😞

The doctor felt that based on my usual 28-day cycle length, it was unlikely to get to the right thickness this cycle and the FET was likely to be cancelled.

However, I'm wondering if I'm just having a long cycle (cycles are pretty regular normally but it's only been 7 weeks since my freeze-all IVF cycle which I know can mess up your cycles, plus I've had a cold which often delays mine. (My lining was fine at my pre-IVF scan)

So it seems I have 4 options:

  • Cancel this cycle and do a medicated FET next cycle
  • Cancel this cycle and attempt another natural cycle next time, taking the risk it may be cancelled again.
  • Start taking oestrogen now in the hope it thickens the lining by next week & I can go ahead.
  • Continue without oestrogen and have another scan next week to check progress in case it gets there by itself.

Thoughts?

I’m doing a cycle of fresh donor egg ivf at the moment and, using estradiol 2mg tablets (started on cd3 and going up every 4 days by 2 mg/day) my endometrium has gone from 2.5mm to 9.89mm with triple line clearly visible between cd1 and cd9. Further scan today (cd14) and endometrium is now 12mm. ET is booked for next Wednesday. I haven’t found I get any side effects from the estradiol tablets

I had a thin lining at the first scan for my (medicated) FET. I was already taking Progynova so they added oestrogen patches. It had plumped up a bit by the next scan but still not amazing (7.8mm). I wanted to cancel but they said 7mm plus was fine as long as there was a triple stripe, and I am now 16 weeks pregnant from that cycle.

In your shoes I would probably take the oestrogen and have another scan in a few days to check, if clinic is happy with that (as they will have seen it all many times before)

I once read somewhere (don't remember where after 5+ years of treatments) that medicated cycles have a higher succes rate than natural cycles. So I would opt for the medicated cycle personally.

I was told that they prefer the lining to be over 8mm and at day 10 ish it should be showing that and ideally triple layer tho don't always see 3 lines

The next week or so the progynova should keep it at that till fet around day 19/20

Tbh I wouldn't waste an embryo on the chance that lining might get thicker but not be minimum thickness for a steady week

They prefer that As advised by my clinic to help embryo attach

So I would scrap this cycle and go for a medicated fet. Far better for results as they can build your lining iyswim

Thanks for your replies, all. I’ve agreed with the clinic that I won’t start taking oestrogen now, but will take ovulation tests over the next couple of weeks and if I get a positive go in for a scan then. Otherwise I’ll wait for next cycle and do medicated then.

I was frustrated yesterday as I feel like I’ve done so much waiting already, but it is only my 2nd cycle since egg collection & I’ve heard it’s pretty common to have a few abnormal cycles after that (my previous clinic would have made me make wait 2 full cycles before attempting FET anyway).
