Waiting and preparing for IVF in 2019

Hi all,
Happy Christmas and wishing you all a fruitful new year! We are having our first round of IVF in April 2019. Although it’s not too long away-it still seems a bit of a wait. Anyone else in the same boat? What are you doing to try and prepare physically and mentally for it? I’m going to try to eat as healthily as poss and start some meditation for wellbeing and just generally plan in some wholesome fun things to look forward to and distract me and try to to let me obsess over ttc! Good luck everyone!

Me! We have our initial consultant appointment for IVF abroad in mid-February and should hopefully be starting soon after that. Am trying to improve diet (after excessive chocolate/alcohol/unhealthy food during December), starting acupuncture again in January and just generally trying to stay calm. Emotionally, I’m finding it hard to deal with the constant waiting. It’s been a long road to get to this stage (over a year) and I won’t be sorry to say goodbye to 2018. Hopefully 2019 brings you the best of luck!

Militarywife7 · 06/01/2019 13:25

Hi ladies,

I’m glad I found this post as your both at a similar stage to me.

Ive got my consultation at the beginning of February. Although I’m excited I’m also scared about the journey ahead and the emotional toll it will take.

We are attending our group session next week to learn more about ivf. Is this something you both have to do also?

I’ve started going back to the gym, my first day back today. I’m hoping that will help relieve some stress.

Sending lots of love for 2019!

So glad I found this thread. I start my cycle on the 17th January. It's on the NHS and I'm a little concerned. So far the team have made multiple mistakes with my blood test results and I'm freaking out! What if they get something else wrong like the dosage when I start stims!

Anyway, it's my first cycle, I have no real clue as to what to expect. I'm scared to hope.

Wishing you all luck!

ivf2019 · 09/01/2019 14:45

I'll join you! Returned the paperwork so waiting on our first ACU appointment to come through (expecting it to be late March time) and then depending on results of scans etc. potentially starting first cycle around September.

We're having IVF + PGD as I have a translocation, so it's long and a drag but will hopefully be worth it!

Good luck with your first cycle @mimi27 - understandable to be nervous, especially with the mistakes, but hopefully drug regimes etc. will be things they're less likely to mess up?

I'll join you all on the lifestyle changes. It's a bit soon to go completely booze free (I would not survive the stress of work and waiting for IVF until September without a glass of wine!) but am doing dry January as a kick start and then drastically cutting back on alcohol and caffeine after Jan finishes. Also trying to lose some weight as my BMI is higher than it used to be and I'd like it to be under 25 before we start treatment.
Has anyone tried any mindfulness work? I was listening to the BFN podcast (give it a listen if you can, it's great) and they interviewed smeone who had released a mindfulness app for women going through IVF. Going to download it after out first appointment I think. It's just called 'Mindful IVF'.

Where is everybody having their treatment?

mimi27 · 09/01/2019 20:10

@ivf2019 hey! I listen to that podcast, downloaded the mindfulness app but yet to try it, I'll share once I start using it.

I cut out caffeine for two weeks now and it is hard. 6am get ups, and teaching 7 year olds all day has definitely made it a challenge.

Hi all, hope everyone is getting on ok. Think me and DH have managed to be fairly healthy since the new year -although cycle isn’t till April so havent completely cut everything yet. Its so hard! But I keep telling myself I will be glad if I have given it my best shot! Also just started last round of ovulation induction with injections so practising self administration getting ready for IVF

Mimi-I’m also a teacher -it’s hard getting time off isn’t -luckily a lot of mine can be done in April!

Good luck everyone.

Hi all, we are due to start IVF ICSI cycle 1 at the end of feb hopefully (BMI dependant) so glad to have found this group. Had a set back at first appointment as my BMI 31 although had already lost 2 stone, another stone to go, feeling the pressure!..wishing you all good luck for 2019. X

MAO4 · 04/03/2019 21:33

Hi all. Started the whole process last year on the NHS and I started taking my injections on Saturday 23rd Feb, I was to take it for 8days which I did. I went for blood and scan on sat 2nd March but they couldn't see my ovaries cos I have fibroid so was told to come today Monday 4th March for another blood and scan in the main hospital. They found about 11 follicles so now was told to come on Wednesday again for another blood and scan. So fingers crossed they will tell me to use the last injection.
If anyone has a question am happy to helpSmile

Carrie218 · 04/03/2019 22:03

Hi there. Just wondering which drugs you are on and how you have been feeling on them? I’m set to start my injections on 25th March. But nervous about them but hopefully not going to have to inject myself. Wish I was brave enough.

Waiting4mumhood · 04/03/2019 22:09

Hello, we are going for second round in the summer (another teacher!) Our last one failed mid December. Taking DHEA supplements at the mo. Anyone else taking this or other extras? I have also started a spin class and doing yoga every day. The mindful off app was good! If you can get over the guy saying "the mind...The fertile mind....the fertile body..." I found this so funny for some reason 😊

Waiting4mumhood · 04/03/2019 22:10

Carrie you would be surprised what you can get over! I had aleays been squeamish but found the injections absolutely fine!Smile

Hopeful16 · 04/03/2019 22:26

I too hate needles- once fainted watching someone else give blood- but found injecting myself fine.

MAO4 · 04/03/2019 22:38

Hi Claire, I am on 225 Bemfola and 0.25 Cetrotide. I was nervous about the injections but it's not so bad. The bemfola was easy and straight forward and not painful but I kind of struggled with the cetrotide cos you have to mix with powder n all and it was a bit painfulHmm. But all in all, not bad. Plus I have been doing it myself

MAO4 · 12/03/2019 06:33

Hi ladies. So my egg collection was done yesterday. They got 6 eggs out. This wasn't done the normal way cos they couldn't see my ovaries from down below cos of my fibroid. They went through my sides. I have several holes(wounds) on both my sides. It is so painful. My anaesthetic dosage was higher than normal and i spent over an hour and a half for the procedure. The last thing I remember was an iv fluid being passed into my vein on my left hand. Then I got woken up after n I was taken back to the room
Hoping to get a call today with some good news that the egg has fertilised.

ivf2019 · 12/03/2019 11:54

Rediscovered this thread - congratulations on your 6 eggs @MAO4 and wishing you a speedy recovery. The collection process sounds extra complicated and painful for you, hope the pain isn't too bad for too long Flowers. Fingers crossed for good news later today.

How is everyone getting on? I hope things are moving ahead positively for you all. We are still waiting... first appointment date finally came through so that's end of April and then fingers crossed first cycle will start 2-3 months after that. It'll be terrible timing as my work will be manic July - October but we'll just have to deal with it!

I have not been taking good care of myself at all so going to try and focus on the positives and get in a better position mentally and physically ahead of anything starting.

@Waiting4mumhood I still haven't tried the app but that would definitely make me laugh... I made myself some affirmation cards but haven't actually used them yet as I feel a right div sitting in bed repeating "I welcome new life into my body" and other such madness Grin

MAO4 · 17/04/2019 20:19

Hi. Hope everyone is doing okay. My ivf was unsuccessful. It was such a gruesome week. My period came even before the PT. I was still hopeful but unfortunately the PT was negative. I have one frozen egg left so am waiting for a letter from the fertility clinic to invite me to discuss what the cause could be and what step to take next. Its gonna be two weeks on Friday I tested negative and still yet to receive a letter. Hoping for the best.
Has anyone started the process of recent
