Menopur Injections Difficulty - Tips Please

I've been doing Menopur injections for 4 days now and I'm struggling a bit and wondering if anyone has any tips?

I don't have an issue with the needle going in, but I'm finding plunging the liquid in quite difficult. I have to do it really slowly because it stings and I'm finding the plunger seems to get stuck a few times as I'm pressing the liquid in. It feels like there's resistance and I have to push hard to get it to keep going down.

All of the liquid goes in eventually, so I'm not worried about not getting all the meds, I just find it quite hard to do the injections and it takes ages and stings like hell so I just get myself worked up and upset. I've watched videos online and I seem to be doing everything right. I've tried icing the area, that didn't make any difference. Any tips? Or at least anyone having the same problem so I don't feel like it's just me messing it up?

Icing before can help with the stinging.

Hi @Cariad82 I'm on day 3 of using menopur. The clinic told me that once mixed it doesn't need to be stored in the fridge (although perfectly ok to keep it there if you want to). Their tip was to take it out of the fridge an hour before because if it is cold it will sting. I'm storing the mixed jar at room temp and so far no stinging. Also not pushing the plunger too fast. It's not about the sting - The needle doesn't hurt going in and although it stings when the meds go in it's bearable. It's more that the plunger seems to go down fine for a little bit then suddenly there's resistance and it stops even when I'm pushing it and to get it going again I have to really push. Then it'll go down fine again for a bit until the same thing happens. It just stresses me out a bit x

Sounds like you are doing it the same way as me. Where are you injecting it? I'm doing mine in my stomach about belly button level

Yes same. About an inch from my belly button alternating left and right. And I'm not particularly skinny so there's plenty of flesh to pinch!

Is the liquid already in the syringe or do you draw it up yourself? If you draw it yourself pull and push the plunger a few times to lubricate it before drawing up. (I'm just a type 1 diabetic so have no clue about these injections) but just trying to help about the plunger.

Yes I’m still here Boggle 😀 Although I’m afraid I don’t know what to suggest as I didn’t experience this problem - perhaps ring the clinic for advice? I really struggled with the breaking the glass and mixing as it was so nerve wracking, particularly if I didn’t have any spare in the house! Good luck OP and hope you find some advice.

Hello I had mine first time yesterday but my partner is doing it for me.I was absolutely fine with buserelin but I dread these ones as it stings a lot.He did it slowly and he had the same issue,he had to stop and push in again.when that happens I release my skin a little bit so it is easier to inject.not looking forward to tonight 😐

Sounds like you’re experiencing the menopur burn! It’s very normal -as PPs have said, ice the injection site for a couple of minutes before injecting and also let the bottle warm up for a while - don’t inject it straight from the fridge. Also push the plunger down very slowly and smoothly. It will probably still sting a bit though! Good luck xxx

Bolala12 thanks - we have to draw it up. My husband preps them so I will tell him to do that tomorrow and see if it helps.

I will also try releasing the skin a bit as I've now heard twice that it helps.

Did my first cetrotide tonight and it stung a lot less than menopur, though it did bleed a fair bit after.

Hey sorry for jumping in. I’m on day 6 of the injections. To start with I had a bit of a nightmare with them but seem to be doing ok now. Have you been for a scan yet?

My first scan is tomorrow. Feeling pretty nervous. Have you had yours yet?

Do you feel like anything is happening? My stomach is pretty sore so i feel like something is going on but I don't want to get my hopes up

I had 2 follicles size 9 and 10 after first scan then 2 days later I only had one follicle siE 10 then 4 days later I have about 10 follicles ranging from sizes 9-20. I have ohss so I have had to navel this cycle unfortunately. How are you getting on? X

Sorry to hear you've had to cancel. That must be really disappointing. I've not had great news - first scan 2 larger follicles and 2 smaller that might catch up. 2nd scan the 2 smaller haven't grown so I have one that's ok and one that's still a bit small. Originally they were going to do my egg collection tomorrow but they have pushed it to Thursday to give the smaller follicle maximum chance to catch up. I just hope we get something on egg collection

Thanks. I’m going to take s break over Christmas and start again in the new year. Don’t be to downhearted just yet, things can change very quickly as my results have shown (hardly anything the one day then too many the next). Let me know how you get on. I have my fingers crossed for you x
