Hello my name is tracey I have been trying to conceive for two years and missed my cycle for two cycles. I had a bleed last week for one day and one this week. I went to s private clinic and got tests done and they called me to say my amh is 1.6 and my only option is a donar ?! I’m 38 years old and devasted and no idea what’s going on. Can anyone help or advice me ?

Hi Tracecap

What did your FSH come out at? I have an AMH of 2.2 and FSH of 2 and was told the same thing but going to give it a shot with my own eggs to see how do with it all, I would regret forever not giving my own eggs a chance first trying to stay positive.

Thank you so much for your reply!
They only tested amh went to my gp for bloods yesterday to get more info.
Such a worrying time I feel so old all of a sudden like my body has decided to just pack up and go home. But positivity is what you need xxxx thank you good luck and let me know how you get on x

My amh was 2.8 age 34. I was referred for ivf and given the impression that it was a big problem and made conceiving naturally very difficult.

Since then I’ve been pregnant 3 times - one of them was through the ivf- and 2 natural pregnancies, one of which sadly didn’t work out.

The second baby was born 16 months after the ivf baby - as I conceived straight away after my periods returned.

In other words - yes you can get pregnant with low amh but it is subject to other factors - eg- no other issues like tube problems or sperm issues. Age is also a big factor as the biggest determinant of pregnancy is egg quality- amh only measures egg quantity and you only need 1 egg unless you are doing ivf.

Ps- the private clinic who told you you need a donor mean that if you want to do Ivf with them, they will only let you do so with a donor. This is because, with an amh that low you are unlikely to do well with ivf with your own eggs. That’s not the same as it being possible or impossible to conceive naturally.

My AMH is 2.2, I had own egg IVF twice then donor egg IVF 3 times, the last time was successful then I got pregnant naturally

Be aware also that there are two different measurement units used for AMH. These can make a big difference when interpreting results.

Ilikeviognier · 17/11/2018 11:50

There are, but the Uk measurement is pmol- so 1.6pmol is very low. The other measurement is used in the us.

Hello thank you so much for coming back to me.
My periods seem to have gone too just waiting for a gynaecology appointment and more tests at the hospital.
Awww congratulations on your babies that’s so good to hear positive news these last few days have been such a world wind of emotions and feeling rubbish.
Need to be positive and get myself healthy!
