I'm back to work today and 2dp5dt.

We had 10 eggs collected, 5 mature, 3 fertilised and 1 good quality early blast put back. Sadly one embie dropped off after day 5 and the other wasn't good enough quality to freeze.

I'd be interested to hear how everyone else is planning to get through the TWW. Had horrible anxiety really early this morning and other than that only a few twinges, I feel completely normal.

Hi FingersXssd83, I’m also on the tww and it’s really dragging (much more than my first cycle). I had 11 mature eggs, 4 fertilised and 3 were put back in. The 4th one didn’t make it so the same as you, none to freeze. I’m 6dp3dt and I really don’t remember the wait seeming so long last time. I’ve tried to keep busy all week and hopefully going to go away this weekend so that should hopefully mean test date should come sooner.

Cherries101 · 31/10/2018 09:20

I had 14 embryos and then 4 blastocysts. Transferred a perfect looking one, didn’f work, so now it’s back to the drawing board. I’ll be getting a few more tests etc. Remember the failure rate of IVF is 5 times higher than the success rate. Most cycles fail. Don’t be negative but don’t blame yourself if it doesn’t work.

Cherries101 - I think positivity is key in all of this as it is in life in general. The stats could drag you down but I don’t let them - I still do the lottery regularly and that’s a chance of 1 in 47 million. 😂😂

FingersXssd83 · 31/10/2018 19:34

I love your outlook @Ahoneybee! Wish you could bottle it and send it to me. It's exciting that you have three on board. Is this your first cycle?

And I know exactly what you mean @Cherries101 it's important to stay realistic and see IVF as a process of three cycles. Do you have any frosties at all?

Going back to work definitely helped take my mind of everything today. Barely had a second spare. Left the house at 6.45am and only just sat down. My plan is to keep as busy as possible from now on to stop my mind spiralling.

Are you both feeling any symptoms at all?

@Fingers this is my second cycle. How about you? Our stats are quite similar. Do you know if yours is the male or female factor? In terms of symptoms, all the same as last time really, sore boobs, some cramps etc so it could easily be PMS symptoms too.

FingersXssd83 · 02/11/2018 09:22

Morning @Ahoneybee! We're unexplained. How about you? They didn't have any concerns about my egg quality but I was a bit disappointed with the number tbh. I'm 35 so wondering if that's come into play. Awh I really want sore boobs but sadly don't have them! Had a few more sharp twinges and have a banging headache today When's your test day? How did you get on with your last cycle? They say to try and see it as a treatment process and we're very lucky to have thee cycles on the NHS. So if it doesn't work this time then I'm now in a better headspace to do it again if we need to xx

Hi Fingers, ours is the sane in that they’re my worried about my egg numbers and quality but we are using sperm taken from when my husband had testicular cancer. Last time only 1 fertilised so we’re pleased to of at least had 4 fertilised this time. We’re paying privately unfortunately as I am over 40. I think my test date is next Wednesday but the clinic put Monday which I think is incorrect as they’d got confused and thought I was transferring on day 5. I will probably test before though. When is your test date? X

FingersXssd83 · 10/11/2018 08:25

My test day is Monday but I tested on Thurs and yesterday it was a BFN. I started spotting from the day of my period so I'm definitely out m. How are you getting along? Wishing you the best of luck! Xx

OP posts:
Ahoneybee · 10/11/2018 09:28

Hi Fingers, I’m sorry to hear about your BFN. It’s always hard to see that. I was amazingly lucky to get a BFP but know from friends that this is only really the beginning and that the next few weeks are crucial. I’m 42 now so I really hope it’s happened and will stay put. You’re only 35 which looking round my clinic is still pretty young. I wish I’d started at your age! That said I’d only just met my husband then. As you said I think it should be seen as a treatment process and not just a one off. I think people who get their BFP first try are lucky. Will you start again after Christmas? Xx

FingersXssd83 · 10/11/2018 10:28

Wow that's amazing, congratulations! You must be walking on air atm

I can't get an appointment with our consultant until 18 Dec and I'm due a bleed 1 Jan so hoping to start then. We'll see what he recommends. Suppose he might suggest leaving it another month but I'm keen to crack on!

Wishing you a very healthy and happy 9 months ahead xxxx

Hi Fingers, thank you very much. I actually still can’t believe that it’s happened. I just want to get through the next few weeks now. Which part of the country is your clinic in? I wish you all the best for the next cycle...I was like you, after the first cycle failed, I just wanted to get on with it. Xx

FingersXssd83 · 10/11/2018 19:36

I can imagine, I'm sure things will go smoothly for you. There's no reason why it shouldn't!!

We're at Care Manchester and have three tries on the NHS which I feel extremely grateful for.

How did they optimise your second cycle? I'm hoping they'll tweak my protocol to hopefully get more mature eggs xx

OP posts:
Ahoneybee · 12/11/2018 18:26

Hi Fingers, they tweaked my protocol for the second cycle and put me on a long protocol. I got 13 mature eggs this time vs. 7 the first cycle and 4 eggs fertilised this time vs. 1 last time. I think they learn more about you each time you do a cycle which is good. I’m sure they’ll change if for you to give you the very best chance xx

FingersXssd83 · 12/11/2018 19:29

That's interesting @Ahoneybee My DH is medical and we wondered whether they'd put me on the long protocol next time. Have to wait until 18 Dec for our appointment, seems such a long wait but focusing on seeing friends and enjoying the Xmas build up in the meantime. Best of luck with your exciting 9 months ahead - I hope to join the BFP club with you soon !! X

Sounds like you’re doing the right thing by focusing on seeing friends and getting into the build up to Christmas. You can then start it fresh in the new year. All the best for the next cycle, do let me know how you get on xx
