What did you do on embryo transfer day?

All being well I will have a single embryo transferred on Monday. I was then planning on going to work. Should I do this? Or should I take the day off?
My DH was not going to come to the transfer as he will struggle to take the time off work. Is this unusual? I don’t mind him not being there but don’t want to be judged for that. Thanks

Well I know when I had appointments between work I was stressed and didn't have success. After I'd taken unpaid leave and could relax more I was successful. Aren't you having sedation?

Went home and sat on the sofa!!

Mine was a fresh cycle though with a huge number of eggs so I was still feeling really rough

Our nurses advice was don't do anything you'd feel guilty about or regret - so I took aggges off work as really didn't want to go back until I was ready! I say relax and put your feet up! X

I don’t know what to do. I don’t think I’ll be sedated as I wasn’t for my trial embryo transfer. It will also be quite difficult to take the day off unless I pull a sicky.

I was doing acupuncture on my successful cycle so I went before and after the embryo transfer then went home to bed. I know it's not necessary but I was relaxed, comfortable and warm which felt the right instinct at the time. Personally I wouldn't want to be working that day, I wouldn't want the stress but everyone handles these things differently. Good luck!

Pull the sickie if you like. You are going to hospital for a day procedure, just tell them that. If they ask further, it’s a gynaecology thing and you don’t want to share the details

You won’t be sedated. It’s similar to a smear although not painful. Your legs will be in very high stirrups. A few people milling around and a very long tube inserted

Erm, last time I went round the Doctor Who Experience afterwards, tbh. I would be perfectly OK to work following transfer. It's a very simple procedure and there's no train to do anything other then go about your day afterwards - whatever you decide that looks like for you.

DH didn't come to the transfer. It was absolutely fine, he didn't need to be there. Only thing I'd say is be prepared for everyone else there to have a partner.

I had mine at around 5.30 so just went home. If it'd been in the morning I'd have gone to work - it very much depends what you do, I sit in an office, anything physical I think they like you to take the rest of the day off.

I have quite a physical and busy job so will take it off. I want to give it the best chance.

My doctor explained it to be like a jam sandwich with a grain of salt in it - it won’t fall out! But it’s well worth a day off

Good luck! Taking the day off is a good call. This sounds a bit ‘out there’ but I read a study which showed that women who were made to laugh after transfer had improved implantation rates, so I had some funny things ready to watch on the way home and then enjoyed the rare opportunity to watch films on the sofa during the day! Hope all goes well for you.

I went to work. Physically there’s no reason not to be at work, but emotionally you might find working immediately afterwards difficult although it does help take your mind off things.

I don’t think anyone will judge you for not having your partner there for transfer, but bear in mind that most people will have partners there (I only say that in case being the only person without your partner there might bother you).

I flew home.

I had my transfer first thing, went back to the hotel and lay down for a couple of hours. Then we went out to lunch, to the airport and flew back to the UK.

My husband carried everything during the travel though and we got cabs to and from the airport.

I’m not bothered about being on my own.
My boss knows that I am going through IVF and that I would need some time off at some point so hopefully it will be ok. My clinic is quite far away from work and I don’t know what time my transfer will be yet. I’ll let them know tomorrow. It’s all feeling very real now!
