What's first? Medication or surgery/clomid or laparoscopy

Hi,

I've been trying for #1 for nearly a year and today I've been referred for a fertility appointment.

I've been tracking my cycles and I ovulate late in my cycles around day 21 with only a luteal phase of 4-8 days.

Blood work done on cd21 showed no ovulation but according to BBT I actually ovulated on cd21.

I know I need clomid to enhance ovulation. OH is getting a sperm test done but I know it's an issue with me.

The GP mentioned a larascopy mayb before clomid? Has anyone had this done before clomid? I don't have PCOS

Hi I was given a laproscopy after my first fertility clinic appointment but that’s because they spotted what they thought looked very like an endometrioma during an ultrasound (it was and was removed in surgery) I also have heavy painful periods. From my understanding the clinics don’t offer laps too often unless you have symptoms of endo or perhaps fibroids. I could be wrong though. Good luck with it all! I also have a short LP-very frustrating! The clinics don’t take much notice either annoyingly!

@gossipgirl28 I had my most recent laparoscopy beginning of July and just now on my first cycle of clomid.

I've had a lap in the past for endometriosis and so my doctor wanted to do another to check tubes clear before giving me clomid. I'm exactly the same as you by the way with anovulatory cycles and short luteal phases.

Anyway good I had a lap as more endo found and also one tube blocked (can't unblock it). On clomid for four cycles before IVF referral xx

I just dont know what to expect really as I guess clomid is less invasive but won't work if you have something that a laraoscopy can solve first.

Can I ask how you found the laraoscopy? How long was the recovery process for you and did you need time off work?

Looking forward to my appointment so I can get the ball rolling properly xx

@gossipgirl28 with my first one I was working in an office so only needed a week off, but this time I'm in an active role so had two weeks off, and to be honest moving and handling wise was still uncomfortable for another week after that. It's only the first few days that are really uncomfortable though. And this time round I only took paracetamol once at home x

You need a diagnosis first and foremost. Clomid's main job is to make the ovaries work harder.

A laparoscopy is not normally performed unless endometriosis is suspected.

Please please be aware they won't just throw tests at you... don't think they will actually search for a cause that isn't fairly obvious. They will try to treat whatever they do find, however.

Laps and hysteroscopies cost serious money. They won't do these invasive surgeries without need.
