Infertility
Endometrioma / IVF / Endometriosis

Hi All,
I guess I am here for some reassurance / guidance from anyone who has been through anything similar.
I had a lap last year for a ovarian cyst that was successfully removed and they also found some endometriosis which they removed (it was floating about and thankfully hadn’t attached to anything too vital). We have TTC since without luck, my blood tests are all good but my husbands results are not great so that maybe part of the reason that we haven’t had any luck so far.
In the meantime I’ve found out I have two endometrioma cysts in my ovary and I’m convinced it has come back elsewhere as I now get niggling pains in my overt and pain when having intercross (no painful periods thankfully, they are light). I’m under a Gyne that has advised that it should come out and they can check the tubes at the same tome... which I am gutted about but my concern is that I have convinced myself that I will need IVF and is it bad to have the IVF close after the lap? I know here are questions for my doctor but they are hard to get hold of and I’m starting to panic... Sorry if too much info here, just looking for some advice I guess.

Hi Just
I wouldn't worry about the proximity of having a lap prior to IVF. There's anecdotal evidence that laporoscopies (ie general rummaging in the nethers region) can affect fertility positively and I know a number of women who've got pregnant post lap or via IVF post lap (me being one of the IVF ones although I had so many other add-ons there's no real way of knowing what was the thing to tip it over the edge!). The lap effect apparently can last up to 6 months post op.
Good luck, I hope it goes smoothly for you and you are pain free once again. Endo is rubbish as are cysts. We had a worry that I had an endometrioma but thankfully the little sod decided to do a runner so I didn't have to think about it. Phew.
