How am I supposed to stay awake?? (IVF first timer / caffeine addict)

Hi ladies, I'm on day one of my first cycle of ivf (short cycle), and started injecting gonal f today. Is it the agreed wisdom that I should quit the caffeine? I don't intend to drink at all and will obviously be eating healthily and exercising gently as far as possible.

If so, how am I supposed to stay alert?! I drink 1-2 coffees a day and a few cups of tea so probably 5 caffeinated drinks a day max. I'll replace with herbal teas but worried I'll face-dive into my laptop as I'm not getting enough sleep at the moment. Maybe that's the issue.. hrmm.

Anyways..

Any advice on natural pick-me-ups would be much appreciated!

Don’t do cold turkey on caffeine at the same time, you need to cut down gradually to avoid major withdrawal symptoms. My advice would be to cut down from 5 to 2 a day for a few days, the reduce to one.

I’m afraid I never found a natural pick me up but Spiced Redbush tea was lovely (and caffeine free)

I gave up caffeine a few years ago and felt knackered and headachey for a few days then felt great! I read somewhere that when a caffeine drinker has caffeine it only makes them as alert as a non-caffeine drinker (if that makes sense). Don't get me wrong, I still miss a proper cup of tea, but do now find peppermint tea or a zingy spicy herbal tea a good pick me up. My skin in much better too 😊

There is no need to cut down your coffee and tea intake at those levels, at all.

Honesty, ivf comes with enough worry without heaping more on yourself.

There have been studies done to show it has no impact on pregnancy rates so if you enjoy your coffees (and moderate alcohol) keep having them.

Hopefully you'll get pregnant soon and then can decide if you want to adjust your intake, but even then you don't need to eliminate completely.

Good luck!

Sorry for the radio silence! Thanks for all your kind messages.

I've moved down to 2 a day and haven't noticed the difference, plus added some interesting fruity infusions and a bit more sleep into the mix for good measure. Feeling okay so far!

@blueroses I definitely get those headaches and realise I haven't had any tea/coffee that day, so going cold turkey probably won't be best as you suggest.

Thanks for the link @chooklass, and for the well wishes @decorating!
