I’m just wondering if anyone has been through this and knows what happens ? We’ve been trying for a baby for a year just over, with no luck.! Went to gp, they sent me for bloods, they was fine, my partner had to do a sperm test, that came back lower than normal, now the doctor said she’s going to refer us to someone, does anybody have any idea what happens when you get referred ? I guess I will find out soon but I just want to prepare myself 🙈

Hi, we are in Wales so not sure if it's much different, but we had the same tests done. Like you my blood came back fine but OH has problems with his SA. So we got refered. We had a letter in about a month along with a list of test we had to complete, after they were all done we had to ring the woman's health unit in our locks hospital where they would look at all our results and asses us, we had three months to complete all tests or we would be back off the list. That's as far as we have got so far... Waiting for an appointment with the consultant now... It's about a three month waiting list.

For the tests we had to do I just rang our practise nurse and she was amazing and arranged everything for us. They included more 21 days bloods, OH did a second SA, Chlamydia test that we both had to do, and I had to have rubbella check... Just been given my MMR as they couldnt find anything on my file. I am also waiting for an internal x-ray which I am not looking forward.

Hope it all goes ok for you.

Ohh gosh really more tests ☹️ I’ve just had to do a chlamydia test, all came back clear as I knew it would, but they have to do it before the refer she said, has any of you already got a child? My partner has a child with his ex, and I was told if it came to it we wouldn’t get ivf on nhs for that reason, I was heart broken as I know we can’t afford £5000 each time 😩 good luck Hun ❤️

No we don't have children. I also heard that as well. I think they are quite striked. If your ex already has a child there is hope... They may be able to give you or him medication. Much rather that than go down the IVF route. I think we will have to go and have ICSI. We are both 35 so feel time is ticking.

Yes that’s true, I thought doctors my have tried us on medication first but doesn’t seem like they do that, ☹️ I hope everything works out for you both

I'm a GP, we don't give clomid in primary care any more as it has to be accompanied by ultrasound tracking. Basic bloods, swab, scan and seen analysis in GP then assessment of tube patency in secondary care then decisions can be made.

Stacey2007 · 17/08/2018 06:23

Ohh really, that makes sense why they haven’t mentioned it to us at the doctors then, thankyou 😁

Also clomid marginally increases the lifetime risk of ovarian cancer and so any woman can only have (I think) six courses in her lifetime - therefore you need to make the most of them and have them under secondary care surveillance. the days of GPs giving a year or so of clomid before referring just in case it helped are long gone!

The doc put me forward for all hormone blood tests, chlamydia swab, rubella and a smear. Dh had SA twice as results were low. We just got letter through for fertility appointment and booked for next month. Dr couldnt explain the SA results as in how much chance we have of conceiving naturally so assuming clinic will explain that. We also can't have ivf on nhs due to my age so planning a private clinic for icsi as from doing our own research it looks like that is what we would need. Don't want to just keep trying so planning treatment for January with fx
