Hi
My husband and I have been TTC for a year. I have PCOS and was having anovulatory cycles. Started on 50mg clomid and 500mg metformin 2 months ago. Currently on cycle 3 but not feeling very optimistic about it working for me.
Just wanted to hear anyone else's experiences of clomid. Did it work for you? If not what did?
I'm getting a little scared it won't work and I'm not sure what our next options will be.

Hey, you should just like me, me and husband trying for #1 today is my first day on 50 clomid but I'm on 2000 metformin. I'm really scared that things won't work and doses will need to be changed etc and it just feels like more wasted time. I'm sorry it's not worked for you for the first couple cycles are you being tracked with ultrasounds? X

Next options my doctor told me was to have my tubes tested, and then moving on to ivf and other surgical options :/

Hi @Snowrose92
Good luck on your first cycle! The side effects weren't as bad as I was expecting but did suffer from a few hot flushes so I'd make sure you've got a fan, especially with this weather. I also had insomnia first cycle and changed to taking tablets in the morning which was much better.
I'm seeing my consultant for a review next week, might have to increase to 100 clomid. I'm not having any monitoring just had a 21 day blood tests

@onawishandaprayer hey are you being seen under infertility or gyne? It really is a postcode lottery, some hospitals track with ultrasounds to see if the clomid is working to check that the follicle is growing in size. I have my first scan on Wednesday to see if the 50 is working. I work for the NHS and it really does suck at times.

I had my first child on 50mcg clomid and here we get echo scans for the first few months to give us an indication of when we're ovulating (from day 12). My tips are:

  • make sure that you're trying every day. Some say every other day is sufficient but I've only been successful when it's been every day
  • check your basal temperature to indicate ovulation

@Hortonlovesahoo
Congratulations! It works for so many people. I'm checking my BBT and ovulating late around day 17 or 18. Was told by my consultant to have sex every other day so have been doing that, DH will be very happy to know we can BD more often. Thank you for your advice

@onawishandaprayer: Haha! He may not be saying that after a few months ;-) It really depends on how 'destructive' your CM is... mine is pretty acidic so everything dies within a day so that's why I recommended it. I've taken alkaline pills to help with it but not sure if it makes too much of a difference?

The consultants will recommend every other day because there is a greater chance of good quality sperm. Has your husband been told about 'refraining from solo activities' from day 7-11? (basically a few days before to try and build up a good stock of sperm).

Hi! May I join?
We are also TTC#1 - 2.5 years in.
PCOS and annovulatory.
We had an incredibly long wait on the NHS and with irregular cycles to get a HSG performed before they would prescribe clomid, which I now finally have.
I start on 50mg for 1st cycle when next AF arrives. We are only getting day 21 bloods but i'm going to do at home OPKs too I guess.
Good luck everyone!
I'd love to hear some success stories to feel a bit more positive if anyone has any to share? Smile x

Oh also - during the last 2.5 years I have been on metformin - started 500mg up to 2000mg but I have been taken off it to begin clomid - my consultant said they want to clear my system, then reintroduce it during clomid cycles if clomid alone isn't working.
He also said metformin is most effective in its first 6 months so odd that I've taken it for so long this far. Is metformin a new addition for you guys? x

I have my first scan today to see if the clomid is working, I did an ovulation test at home and for the first time a second line appeared. Super nervous about this scanConfused
