STEROID PREDNISOLONE PRESCRIBED WITH IVF

Hi all, I would like to hear experiences of the steroid Prednisolone being prescribed for high thyroid antibodies in the blood during iVf for better embryo implantation. I have been warned about the risks to the baby however it seems like the DR thinks it will give the embryo the best chance of successful implantation. I am really confused as there isn’t enough evidence on success rates and risks. If anyone has used this and has a story to tell, either positive or negative please reach out.

I was on it durong my 3rd cycle and got BFP first time in my life however it then turned into BFN after 3 days...

Hi, I got my first ever BFP (twins!) using prednisolone after 5 years ttc and 3 previous failed ivfs. My twins are perfectly healthy at 28 Months dnd my pregnancy was a breeze! Good luck!

18 months I mean! I told 20mg of pred from transfer until 12 weeks then weaned off

I had (have) very high antithyroid antibodies. I had one IVF that ended up in a CP and then one with prednisone that ended up in my daughter who is 1. Off for a FET hopefully next month with pred again. I think it’s why I got pregnant but maybe it was a fluke! We’ll see next month!

No worries, glad it was helpful! Am shortly starting a FET with steroids again. I don’t love being on them, they make me hungry and put weight on. But I will grit my teeth and get through it! Good luck!

Hi everyone.

I know this is a late post but I am currently going through IVF. I had a miscarriage in Oct 2017 (thyroid antibodies were negative) and then an ectopic pregnancy, resulting in removal of my left tube last year in Feb. I recently tested my thyroid panel and I tested positive for thyroid antibodies. Dr has mentioned Prednisolone to me and also intravenous lipids infusion. What did you guys decide in the end and what’s your opinion? I am on my last day of stims so any advice would be helpful and very kindly appreciated!!

May I ask what is CP and FET?

I have thyroid antibodies and I was prescribed 25mg prednisone which I am worried to take as I read that it has phychotic side effects, palpitations etc.

I already suffer from palpitations, chest pain due to reflux issues and the last month it has triggered a lot of panic attacks so I am scared to death to take 25mg predisone.

They want me to start one week from starting the Gonal - F injections and if I get a BFP then continue them during the first 3 months of pregnancy.

May I ask what was your dosage and when they asked you to start them and end them?

I take 10mg prednisolone daily (was 5mg but ivf clinic asked advise of rheumatologist - I have RA after my previous failed cycle) and was advised to take an additional 16mg for 5 days pre embryo transfer - this is the clinic’s standard protocol). I have, in the past, been on 40mg daily while ill with my asthma and, apart from increased appetite and feeling as if I’ve drunk 3-4 double espresso’s, haven’t had palpitations. So it’s not a given you’ll get them!!

I requested this during my last IVF cycle, clinic said no, I had a chemical pregnancy/early miscarriage and regret not pushing harder/finding a different clinic.
