Progesterone shots

Has anyone been prescribed progesterone shots (the ones on the butt) for the first 3 months post transfer? I am doing a FET next month and the consultant mentioned progesterone shots for 12 weeks (which will cost shit loads too Angry).

The nurse later then said it was up to me and I could take them or could try the belly progesterone shots or even just the pessaries.

I had a successful fresh cycle two years ago and I used the pessaries for 8 weeks. Nothing to suggest problems with progesterone levels generally so wondering if this is now standard or recommended?

Hi, I am currently having progesterone injection one a week on top of the pessaries twice a day;-)

One a week? I do wonder how the consultants come up with these different protocols! Did you have any issues with progesterone levels before your cycle?

Thanks, I am tempted to just go with the pessaries, I was fine with them last time.

@mowglik I've done 2 fresh cycles at different clinics and one insist on progesterone shots, the other use cyclogest. The first clinic also test for progesterone levels every couple of days after transfer. Intro muscular progesterone shots are meant to be the gold standard - it's easier for the clinic to be sure you are absorbing the right amount. But I found them a bit much - they were quite painful and left me pretty bruised and battered. If I go back there I am going to specifically ask to stick with cyclogest pessaries unless my levels show a problem. I think feeling good is as important as long as there isn't an actual problem.

It's worth asking if the clinic will be monitoring your progesterone levels because if so, you could suggest starting with cyclogest to see how you get on?

I had them for 2 of my cycles, I asked for them as always bled before test day on other cycles, I had gestone the first time then prontogest the second, I would definitely always have them, they are expensive though

I have had the non oil ones - lubion. Very tolerable, simple injection into the tummy just like the stimulation drugs etc. Can’t get over how nasty PIO sounds!

Thanks jane, It’s the same clinic as last time and they don’t monitor levels. The intramuscular injections sound a bit much prof, I think I will ask for the lubion as I’d probably regret it if I just went with the pessaries and the fet didn’t take.

Thanks all
