Can frozen embryos/5-day blastocysts be thawed, tested with PGS and refrozen while waiting for the PGS result?

Would the re-freezing damage the embryos?

Hi Leontine, we have recently had this done. We had 4 embryos transferred to another clinic for pgs testing, 3 didn't survive the initial thaw for biopsy, one was biopsied and re-frozen (luckily it came back pgs normal) and we have just recently had it transferred (it obviously survived the second thaw).

We were very unlucky that 3 didn't survive the initial thaw, the clinic said usually 95-98% survive! However this would have happened if we had had a normal FET - ironically we would have had the same one transferred without pgs testing as it was the only survivor! Apparently if they can survive all that they are seeing good pregnancy rates but we will see. The clinic didn't seem to think re-freezing would damage the embryo and it survived so... Not sure if this is very helpful but you are not alone in doing this! x
