Infertility
First appointment at fertility clinic and confused...

Hi, I had my first appointment at the fertility clinic last week where I assumed I would be told to try harder, given chlomid etc but instead i was told I need to go straight for IVF!
I had a transvaginal ultrasound and they found fibroids (which I already knew about) but they also found a "mass" which they didn't know what it was.
I now have to go back for another scan next week where they fill me with fluid to have a better look.
I'm a bit scared as they didn't know what this mass was!
Secondly - I was told I only had one folicle on my right ovary and one on my left - what does this actually mean? I did start my period that day (was spotting before i went in and then the scan helped it flow!)
A friend told me one folicle on each ovary is bad news and means I'm approaching menopause imminently?!
I was so worried about the mass they found and the shock of going straight for IVF that i forgot to ask questions about what one folicle actually meant!
Will i produce more when I'm due to ovulate??
Very confused!

It sounds like you have a low antral follicle count (AFC) which means you probably have diminished ovarian reserve. Unfortunately that means you haven't got time on your side which is why they're probably jumping straight to ivf.Clomid only helps if you're not ovulating. Have you had an FSH and AMH? How old are you?
AFC is an indicator of how many eggs you might get when they give you the ivf hormones. My AFC pre ivf was 11 but I got 20 eggs so it doesn't directly correlate but gives you an idea.

Fibroids can also make it hard to get pregnant. I'm not sure on the mass I'm afraid - sorry x

Thanks - I had blood taken when I was there but don't know when I will get the results - I presume at my follow up in august?
I'm 37.

Hi @purple I would try not to panic until you know what your AMH level is. I went for a folicle count scan this week and found out I had fibroids. They could only see one folicle. The fibroids make it difficult to scan accurately. I had my bloods done the same day with same day results and my AMH level was 13 which means there was definitely more than 1 folicle present but that the fribroids obstructed the sonographer so she couldn’t count them properly. Also although fribroids can make it difficult to carry a child it really does depend on where and how they are situated. Get proper medical advice once you have bloods and try not to worry until you know more. Good luck.

I'd ring up next week to get some results. Blood work doesn't take very long to come back. Save you worrying until August.

How's things? I've got my first fertility appointment next month and I'm not sure what to expect. Can anyone help? 😐
