Need your help! +OPK with BBT rise 4 days after - consistently

Hi, I'm new to this website, I signed up because I'm pulling my hair out with this issue.
I have been TTC for almost a year, and I have been tracking my BBT for 6 months. I always get a positive OPK each month around CD18/19, but my BBT never rises until at least 4 days after this. I have searched the internet and it seems as though no-one is in the same boat as me. A lot of people say that it rises a day after, sometimes two, maybe even three, but never four! I continue doing OPK's until my BBT rises, but there is never a second surge, it seems as though my body is just really slow to ov from the initial surge. I'm wondering if this is normal, or if it indicates some kind of problem that I'm not aware of.
I live in the UK, but i do not qualify for any kind of treatment on the NHS because my SO has a child from a previous relationship. Even though she lives hundreds of miles away and we only get to see her once a month Sad.
So I am relying on forums and websites for my info as we can't afford private treatment.
Absolutely any help or advise would be really appreciated.

A positive opk is just an indication that you are going to ovulate. You can ovulate upto 48 hours after your surge. So if you got your positive on day 18 you might not ovulate until day 20/21 then your temp would rise day 21/22.

Ahh okay thanks Juneybean, so long as its still considered normal then I'm okay with that. I just worried that it takes me so much longer than most people. Thanks for your reply!

Hi, so this is my first month charting my temps . Usually I only do opks. I got my first positive opk on 5th June and other symptoms and today the 8th I’ve still not had a temp rise . I’m using OvuSense too. So I know it’s not how I’m doing it . I’m worried I don’t ovulate at all I’m on cd 21.

I have a feeling I have low progesterone as I always spot for a week before I come on. I’ve been gp but they didn’t seem concerned :( just arghh

OneDay1234 · 08/06/2018 12:43

Hey Smile ah well if you’re anything like me your temp will go up tomorrow, possibly even the day after. It strange isn’t it. Can’t say why that is, I have no idea, I hope it’s not bad news or anything. Yeh that is a symptom of low progesterone. Honestly in my experience the GP’s know absolutely nothing about fertility, it’s like bashing your head against a brick wall with them. You need to be referred to a consultant and they will help you. Keep on at the doctors for a referral and don’t stop until you get one!

Hi @OneDay1234 ,

Sounds like you are ovulating but the sticks and bbt are a guide you need a mid literal phase progesterone blood test - so 7 days before your expected period. Have you had this done yet? X

Wishescometrue · 08/06/2018 13:32

So what day would ovulation be ? Or is it just a steady rise ? Don’t I’ve just emailed a private clinic . It’s £245 for a consultation but I’m so fed up... literally . So I think I’m going to see them and see what they have said . I’ve had some bloods done too, doc said they were “normal” however I don’t think they are!

hoping2018 · 09/06/2018 07:09

@Wishescometrue , it doesn't really matter what day ovulation is if you cover with sex every couple of days you're sorted. In terms of blood tests progesterone needs doing 7 days before your usual cycle length. Ask for a copy of your blood test results - then you can check they're ok yourself. I was told mine was normal but my FSH was high - I was so pleased I asked for them! We then got everything moving urgently after that

Ok I finally have a temp rise !! So that’s 4 days after my positive opk too! Hmmm

Wishescometrue · 09/06/2018 08:25

It’s hard as my cycles range a lot . Oh what was your fsh?? And what did they give you? Mine is 10. They said it’s normal but when I looked online it said border line. X

hoping2018 · 09/06/2018 09:02

@Wishescometrue my fsh was 11.8, guidelines I found said if fsh >9.5 you should be referred early to fertility clinic. I emailed my gp the guidelines and they referred me the next day and saw the clinic a week later and went straight to ICSI (male factor infertility too)

Article I found. Hope it helps.

Thank you! Ahh so it annoys me so much when they say your levels are normal but really they are border line . What have the clinic said? I contacted one privately and they don’t have an appointment till mid July !! Feels like ages away. Especially when you have to pay so much. Maybe I will go back to the gps. My thyroid levels came back Quite high too, my tsh levels . So I guess I have a things going on Confused x

hoping2018 · 09/06/2018 10:12

I also have thyroid problems, TSH needs to be

Wishescometrue · 09/06/2018 10:40

Oh wow congrats to you!! So annoyed right now. My tsh is 3.6! It’s only because I asked for the print out of the results that I know this ... they were literally telling me they were normal !!! Why don’t the gp care!
I’m looking up private now and have contacted a few .
Thank you x

hoping2018 · 09/06/2018 17:21

I think if you have no personal history and no family history of thyroid problems a TSH of 3.6 is ok. It's only if you've got known thyroid problems that it has to be

Wishescometrue · 09/06/2018 17:53

My mum is on thyroxin and so was my grandad , and the side effects I have all of them, so I reckon it may not be helping :(

hoping2018 · 09/06/2018 19:52

Hi @Wishescometrue I think the levels effect miscarriage rates but not conception so won't the cause of infertility but may be important to get it sorted prior to conceiving x

Wishescometrue · 09/06/2018 20:29

Oh I’ve had a miscarriage so this is interesting to know this!! Defo going to get this looked into :) thank you xx
