Borderline semen count - too low or ok?

Hi ladies, I'm just looking for a bit of advice really. My DH has been for 2 x semen analysis and the results show motility and volume all good but concentration levels between 30 and 40 million per ml and morphology 3-4%. The specialist we saw thinks this should be ok and wants us to keep ttc naturally for a bit longer. Has anyone had success (or not) with similar figures? Everything I've read suggests >50 million p/ml and >4% is what's needed. Many thanks x

We had success at around 7 million so your figures sound pretty good to me.

Thank you for your feedback. Did it take a while? I'm about to start cycle 11 so feeling a little disappointed. Also not sure if bd every other day is fine or we should take a more, err, targeted approach.

Low morphology is common - apparently it is due to the criteria used.

Below 15 million is classed as a low count so whilst a 'good' count is higher, you have a good count.

11 months isn't that long (they say most couples should fall within 12 months) but I know the waiting is really hard.

Every other day is recommended rather than timing it in case you have ovulation wrong but if you think you are ovulating you can bd more if you want to.

I was told 30+ million was fine but might take a bit longer. 90% of couples conceive in 1 year, 95% in 2 years. Depending on your age it wouldn't be unreasonable to keep trying naturally. Good luck.

Thank you, yes I guess the situation now is keep trying and hoping. I'm 34 and my fsh is high so I don't feel we've got years to wait but also don't want to get intervention if unnecessary. It seems we are in a kind of grey zone where we should be ok but not certain. My cycles range from 23-26 days so we've been going for every other day. But wondering if that be overly depleting the sources 😆

Hi. I don't have an answer but seems we have similar issues. My DH has good volume but not so good concentration. He kind of blanked after that so we have an appt with our Dr on Thursday to discuss in detail.

I'm at the 18 mth mark & 33, DH is 37. Getting anxious now. Thursday can't come soon enough.

I will let you know if Dr has any comments that may be helpful.

Good luck

@Catmama7 ah interesting, thanks for getting on touch. Yes volume wise we're good but concentration less so. Are you similar in terms of 30-40 million? I wonder if there any supplements may help? We already have an active healthy lifestyle and take multi vits so I'm not sure what else we can do. It'll be interesting to hear what your doctor suggests.x
