Anyone taken cabergoline to prevent OHSS

As the title thread says really. Just wondering if anyone has been put on cabergoline pre EC to prevent OHSS. My clinic talked about it yesterday but have decided not to - but after looking at some papers I think it sounds like a good idea?

This is our second cycle - last time we got 14 fertilised embryos but then no good quality blasts on day 5. We've been told we're very unlikely to get anything good enough to freeze so I really want to avoid OHSS as I'm putting back whatever blasts we get!!!! Had 29 follicles of a good size on scan yesterday (17mm-22mm) and feeling pretty nauseas and hence the high risk for OHSS Confused

Just interested to hear anyone's experience.

Thanks x

Hi @hoping2018 I started cabergoline straight after my most recent EC as I got a surprising 23 eggs. I did feel quite ill and drained after EC tbh and it was my 4th cycle so I'm pretty used to it all. I felt rough for a few weeks and threw up a fair bit for the first 2 days afterwards. The cabergoline really seemed to make a difference though and I went ahead with transfer. My consultant said my ovaries looked much better after 5 days. They also scanned me after my 2 week wait and they were happy with the way things were looking then. I was told by my consultant that ideally they would have started it before EC so maybe ask again? Good luck Thanks

Sorry just wanted to add that I've done 4 fresh cycles, my egg quality seems to be an issue as I always have lots of immature eggs. I usually get a good number at EC but not many embryos to play with. Despite that I've had a day 2 transfer, a day 3, a day 5 with none to freeze and another day 5 with 4 to freeze so a real variety and not much difference in terms of drugs! So don't give up hope that you won't ever get frozen ones!
I have got one DS from my 3rd cycle and am now trying for a sibling. Wishing you lots of luck Smile

Thanks for replying @NoCupcakesOrCocktails . It's nice to hear a success story - it's so disheartening to get so stimulated and be so uncomfortable and still have nothing to show for it at the end. Last cycle we got super excited with 14 fertilised embryos wondering if we'd donate leftover blasts etc - so naive!

Egg collection is tomorrow so I'll be asking about it then and I'm fairly certain I want to start. Feeling nauseas, lack of appetite and not seeing much today - also got a fair bit of pain? Which I don't remember form last cycle despite having 32 follicles then.

Thanks

X

I did. It worked, no OHSS. I did have the most embarrassing side effect though - uncontrollable sexual appetite. I laughed when I read it on the bottle, but it was... Difficult.

My IVF cycle was ultimately successful, despite the high risk of OHSS (symptomatic after retrieval) and having to take Cabergoline. Fingers crossed for you.

@hoping2018 all the best for tomorrow! I know exactly what you mean. It's such a rollercoaster of emotions waiting for the updates every day. I hope they start the cabergoline. I had blurred vision too, forgot about that!

@mplINsTA I didn't have the increased sex drive though and had no idea that was a side effect Shock

Fingers crossed for a nice batch of juicy eggs x
