First appt at Infertility Clinic - what to expect?!

Hello ladies!

Feeling really nervous about my first appointment on Monday at the infertility clinic.

WHAT TO EXPECT?!

Tell me your experience💕

I'm 24 and recently diagnosed with PCOS. No cysts currently, all bloods have come back fine. (Luckily) BMI is 27.9 so hoping this is okay as I've heard 30+ and they basically just tell you to lose weight?!
DP is part of my referral!

I’ve just had a look through. That’s super helpful. Thanks so much. It gives me a far better idea of what I will probably be letting myself in for. I love your description of Stan- great name btw 😆. Did you get pregnant in the end? Xx

@xLauraa I hope your pre-op went well and the lap is ok for you. My hubby did his SA today. My hycosy is due Monday but can’t book it until his results come back so I think I might be resigned to waiting another month. I know what you mean about the waiting game. We’ll get there!

xLauraa · 03/05/2018 13:57

@wanab thank you. Was okay was in and out in just over an hour. Didn't really find much out it seemed to be more for them really but they said I'll have time to ask questions before the Op on the day so hopefully they're right!

Had mine yesterday- they went over DH’s SA result (all fine) and then did a transvaginal ultrasound for me- no concerns. I think they normally weigh you but she just asked my weight as she was only concerned that I might be underweight but she said my BMI of 21 based on the weight I told her of was fine.

I’ve to do a Fallopian tube dye test in 8- 12 weeks and then it’s an appointment to discuss that but there won’t be an IVF referral until we’ve tried for 2 years because we’re unexplained. We’re at 16 months TTC just now.

kikisparks · 04/05/2018 08:41

@AniSl- that’s so unfair that you didn’t meet the criteria even being referred at 34 which is still so young! It really is a postcode lottery, here it’s under 38 or 39 to get 3 attempts, and under 42 to get 1 attempt per nhs guidelines.

kikisparks · 04/05/2018 08:43

@Miracle29 that wasn’t like my first appointment at all, she didn’t mention ivf except to say we needed to be 2 years TTC before they’d refer. Seems people have different experiences- she was laughing because d.h’s gp had given him a testosterone test and she didn’t know why as it’s not standard practice. Things seem to really vary!

AniSL · 04/05/2018 10:04

Kikisparks it sucks. I am moving to your area 🤣

My dh had to have a testosterone check because they found no sperm in any of his samples. It's standard practice at my clinic so they can see if it is a hormone imbalance that is causing this is something physical.

Hi all.
@Mrsjones17 how are things for you now?
Have any of you got any further?

We have had an appointment this morning and are being put on the waiting list for ICSI IVF which they said is only about 3-4 months :o. I was mentally preparing myself for a long haul. Didn’t need hycosy in the end as it’s primarily male issues.

Hope you all are getting somewhere.

xLauraa · 06/06/2018 09:47

@wanab Wow that's a mega short wait! Good luck with the IVF 🤞🏼

Hi @xLauraa yes.. i’m amazed how quick it is -assuming it turns out to be as short a wait as he said.

Have you had your lap now? Has it all gone ok? Any answers or progress for you?

xLauraa · 06/06/2018 18:31

@wanab yeah I hope he's right!

Yeah, I'm 3 weeks post surgery now. It went well, they found stage 2 endometriosis on both ovaries and near my womb. Managed to burn it all away! did the hysteroscopy and the dye test too and that was fine! Still a bit tender inside but ok generally. Been back to see my consultant this Monday just gone and he says I'm "good to go". Unfortunately the problem now lies with DP and his sperm💔 so hopefully I'll know more in the 3 months he's time after he's had some treatment x
