Would anyone mind helping me out with these blood test results?

Morning, I'm pretty new to all this & wondered if anyone could give any insight to these blood results?
Background is 2ry infertility, hydrosalpinx identified on routine scan looking for something else, likely caused by an ectopic pregnancy last year which I had methotrexate for. Initially we were thinking we didn't want to do IVF but have started to come round to the idea.
Day 3 bloods,
Serum FSH 14.2 IU/L
Serum LH 8.4 IU/L
Progesterone 2.0 nmol/L
Oestradiol 185 pmol/L

Day 21 bloods will be done this week. GP has said not to worry, Dr Google was not so positive. Any thoughts?

Hi @rainbowgrimm ,

How old are you? As that impacts on what your FSH should be - looks like Your FSH on day 3 is high. Mine was 11.8 and the GP coded as normal. I then researched lots and found that anything above 9.5 should prompt an urgent referral - I told the GP this and was referred after that. Seen by consultant who told us we needed ICSI due to male reasons and to get on with it quickly as my FSH suggested low ovarian reserve. Saying that I ovulate every month and have regular cycles - and FSH is not a marker of egg quality just how many are left. Supposedly it also indicates what level of.drug to give you and how many eggs they might get in IVF but they got 20 for me and we're completely shocked so I'm not overly convinced FSh is correct!! The next step for you should be to get an AMH blood test done which is apparently a better marker of ovarian reserve than FSH.

Not sure on the other bloods I'm afraid as it's just FSH I've had experience with!

hoping2018 · 02/04/2018 14:41

And FSH really isn't that bad xxxx

hoping2018 · 02/04/2018 14:42

IVF/ICSI* really isn't that bad!!!!

rainbowgrimm · 02/04/2018 18:11

Thanks for your input hoping. GP has offered to repeat day 21 bloods next month but no AMH. We've been reffered to an NHS clinic for further investigation, not sure if we'd be better off going straight to a private one, I'm still trying to work out how this all works. I'll possibly need surgery for the hydrosalpinx so perhaps I need to stay on the NHS list for now. I need to lose some weight before we can do anything anyway so the wait won't really matter in the end, I just want answers now!

GPs can't order AMH's - it has to be done by the clinic so it sounds like you're on the right path. I paid £100 to have my AMH done privately by the NHS clinic - so when I had my first appointment with the NHS they told me the result (it took 3 weeks to come back so this sped things up ever so slightly and meant we had a more productive first consultations)

Hope that helps and good luck

That's interesting, I'd be happy to do that. Did they offer it or did you specifically ask?

My clinic is nhs but private as well - I specifically called and asked. Explained fsh was high which is why I wanted AMH doing. They were happy with this as long as I had an appointment booked with them x

Brilliant, I think the one we've been reffered to is the same, I'll give them a call & see what they say.

Agree with all the above. Fsh over 10 suggests low ovarian reserve. Get an AMH Test. Sadly some GPs don’t know much about fertility - my fsh was 12 and my gp said it was ok- I️ knew it wasn’t so insisted on being referred.

How old are you? Implications are that you need to get a move on in a nutshell. Also that you might not respond well to ivf drugs or get many eggs (not certain though).

Also egg numbers are no indicator of egg quality- egg quality is what counts.

rainbowgrimm · 05/04/2018 20:49

Thank you - I'm 37. I'm back tomorrow for day 21 bloods. Once they're done I can call clinic and see when our appointment might be, they said 6-12weeks previously.

Hiya!

I've actually written an article all about day 3 blood test results (and how to interpret them): theduff.co.uk/ivf-first-steps/

(Hope you don't mind me linking to an external website. It's purely informational and there are no adverts or anything on it.)

Hope it helps!

Thanks Mish, you have a lovely clear writing style.

Coming back to this day 21 bloods have come back at 20.4nmol/L so again not brilliant.
My day 5 bloods are being repeated in the next cycle, I need to ask for day 21 to be repeated as well don't I?

My fsh fluctuated a lot- it was 9 in Oct 16, Feb 17 (very stressed) if was 14odd. To get free ivf here I had to get it below 10 so I had 6 weeks of acupuncture and it went down to 4.9 and we got accepted to the clinic for nhs treatment. I think my day 21 showed I wasn’t ovulating that month on that day and I was disheartened.

My amh was low (2.8 I think) and we only got 2 eggs on our first ivf cycle but had the best one put in as a blastocyst and am currently 36 weeks pregnant.

So it’s quality over quantity is what I’m trying to get across- and I highly recommend fertility acupuncture!!!

rainbowgrimm · 09/04/2018 22:28

Congratulations Pips. Unfortunately my results are already after fertility acupuncture.
