F21 test ovulation kit

Hi all...

I was asked by my fertility consultant to take a clear blue ovulation test on day 21 of my cycle to confirm that I am ovulating.

we have male factor fertility and are being referred for Isci (unsure if I've spelt that right) and all of my blood results have come back normal, scan didn't find any abnormalities other than my left ovary hiding but they eventually found it.

My last cycle started 17th February, I count 21 days to be today the 9th March... I took the test and it showed I am not ovulating?

I'm really freaked out, I'd never used the OV kit before because my partner knew he couldn't conceive naturally so we knew the fertility treatment was needed and doctor when we first went in to discuss our options advised there wasn't much point because the chances of conceiving naturally where beyond small.

I have no idea why I'm not ovulating :( I'm going to keep testing just in case I've worked out the dates wrong.

I'm 25, non smoker, I do drink alcohol but usually once a week, I'm "normal" weight, eat healthy and exercise regularly. My periods are very regular and I've never had any issues with them.

I just don't understand, I'm so upset and worried. This whole process is quite challenging anyway so this hasn't helped at all. I also took it out on my partner and was abit snappy with him :( which is annoying because he's brilliant and only tried to be supportive

How long are your cycles?

If they are longer than 28 days then the 21 day test wouldn’t be on day 21 for you

melissa1215 · 09/03/2018 09:46

@AniSL between 28-30 days usually, do you think I should keep testing over the next few days?

As far as I know this kit cannot tell if you have ovulated but tracks when your LH and Oestrogen have a surge - which is an indicator of ovulation.

Again, not sure about this particular one, but most kits require that you track over 5 days to keep checking your most fertile day.

Your meant to use the kit before you ovulate. The cd 21 thing is a blood test that measures progesterone to see that you DID ovulate.

An ovulation predictor kit does just that - predicts, as in makes guesses about the future. It will not work after ovulation.

You may well ovulate today but unfortunately you should have been using the predictor kit in the days leading up to ovulation, not on the day itself. It can detect LH surge which usually happens 1-2 days before you ovulate. So please don’t panic x

My consultant told me this specific kit and to do it on day 21 if my cycle :( she didn't even offer a blood test

Consultant said it was for the F21 test not necessarily ovulation, I don't know? I'm so confused and down about it

Just checking...you used the clearblue digital ovulation kit? If so she should have been clearer in her instructions. If you read the guide that goes with it, it is very clear how to use and does not state that you have to use it on the day that you think you will ovulate. Maybe best to contact consultant and question x

Definitely think you need to go back and seek clarity.

First of all, if you're using the digital OPKs you need to be testing for at least several days (they recommend from CD10 for first cycle) for it to get a baseline for your body.

Second, the sticks only show when you are having an LH surge, which happens 24-36 hours or so before ovulation. It doesn't show you have ovulated, only that your body is gearing up to do so. Also by day 21, with an averageish cycle length, you could well have ovulated already or missed the surge.

melissa1215 · 09/03/2018 11:18

@windy2909 yeah that's what she told me to use but specifically on day 21, I asked my boyfriend as he was with me and we both came away with the same answer. I'm really confused, I will phone to double check as obviously the information is wrong.

I'm back on March 20th so I can explain everything then just means another month of waiting

Think she told you some wrong advice there. Best to go back and get clarity. The ovulation predictor kits cannot tell if you have ovulated.

Thank you for the replies, really appreciate it... I'm currently at work and will be contacting the doctor or gynaecologist when I get a chance.

I was always slightly confused as the instructions from doc and test kit instructions didn't add up.. maybe I took the info in wrong, I don't know

Yes! My consultant said she offered me to do the ov test and tell them the results or do a 21 day blood test! I definitely got my wires crossed!!!! I'm a terrible over thinker!

Thanks for all the help x
