HyCoSy went wrong

Hi all,

I’m really not sure if I’m in the right place. Last week I tried to have a HyCoSy done but unfortunately they couldn’t do it as they couldn’t get the catheter through the cervix. I’m devestated as we had been told the HyCoSy was the last ‘tick box’ for IVF as we are unexplained.
Does anyone have similar experiences? Did you have a different investigation instead? I’ve heard a lap and dye is a possibility.
Also, and what’s worrying me most, is surely it’s the same procedure to do an embryo transfer in IVF. Does this mean that’s off the cards too?

Sorry it’s just I got no answers on the day and my follow up appointment isn’t for a few weeks and the whole thing is stressing me out. I was so looking forward to finally moving on with this.

I had the same experience as you longar although mine was excruciatingly painful. You will be offered a lap next as this is the usual procedure when HyCoSy is inconclusive/picks up issues.

My lap uncovered sever endometriosis and the consultant said this was the reason why the HyCoSy couldn’t be completed in my case. Not saying this is the case for you and I hope I haven’t scared you. There are probably other reasons why it failed without there being anything ‘wrong’ with you.

Not sure what the procedure is re embryo transfer is but I guess it depends on the reason why the HyCoSy failed and the lap will give you some answers.

Hi thanks, yes it’s not an experience I want to repeat. Sorry to hear about the endometriosis. In some ways if I get an answer that would be good. Sometimes I hate the unexplained element even though in theory it’s a good thing.

Hi, I had the same issue however for IVF the doctors said they didn't need to to do the Hycosy if that was the route we were set on going down and we had our embryo transfer done absolutely fine. So I wouldn't worry if IVF is the route your looking at it will be fine xx

This happened to me. My cervix was closed

I had the op under a general and they also did a cervical dilation while under

Tho this doesn’t last forever and I had another dilation abroad before my 3rd ivf about 2yrs later

It’s not something to worry about as can be fixed

Luckily SPAIN did a mock transfer and reliesed they couldn’t get a catheter up my cervix so no way they would have been able to put an embryo back

It’s also why I think egg collection for cycle 1&2 was so painful in UK and possibly while both cycles failed as my inside was sore
And fragile after egg retrial

Another reason why many clinics like freezing all eggs now and woman having a fet a month or so later to allow body to heal

Didn’t they say after the failed that they could do during a general

Many woman tense up and procedure can’t be done
