Hi,

I posted a month or so ago about being referred for IVF... I'm 25, partner is 33. Infertility is on my partners side as he has poor motility and 5% when they said it should be 30%

My partner went through fertility tests three years ago but I was too young for ivf on NHS.

I've had my scan, everything seems okay except my right ovary was hiding but eventually they seen it and doctor was happy. I'm waiting another set of bloods from gynaecologist but bloods from gp of hormones came back normal.

My partner has to do another sperm analysis on March 7th, and we go back on March 20th to go through results however the consultant was happy that we will be having ivf, she said on March 20th we'll be "making a plan" then apply for funding (which we should be accepted for)

We originally went to the gp in early January to discuss fertility issues, this have moved quite quick but I'm just wondering if anyone has my idea of what to expect next, as in does the ivf start soon after the funding is accepted?

I know I have to do an ovulation test something called f21 (21 days after my period)

Is there anything anyone would recommend me doing in the meantime while I'm waiting?

I don't know anyone personally who has been through fertility treatment, I'm really worried it won't work. My head feels really chaotic with all of the information

Hi Melissa. I don't have the answers but I was told to expect similar at my next appointment March 12. I was also told that my ccg 'doesn't have a waiting list' which makes me suspect that others do.

I'm just doing the usual: folic acid, vit d. I think I'm going to try to get in better shape through yoga (which I already do a little bit of) and maybe some light jogging.

I think really do what you need to do to get through the waiting.

I guess I'm at the point where I don't expect it to work. He'll, I'm already thinking ahead to cycles two and three!! We've been saving for the last year.

Oh and I quit my job to reduce my stress levels and improve my sanity (but I was a teacher which I was looking to get out of anyway - no life, only work).

Hi guys, I was NHS funding and had my first appointment in November and was told it could all start the next cycle. Unfortunately due to a holiday and then Christmas it ended up starting in January. But all moved very quick after first appointment for me.

Thanks for the replies! I'm NHS so hopefully we will be approved for funding.

It's the waiting and not knowing what to expect I'm struggling with so it's nice to know I'm not alone.. I wish I could quit my job, that'd certainly lower my stress levels haha

Hi @melissa1215 you can google your local CCG s ivf protocol and check you meet criteria and how many rounds they offer etc

@AmbK hi, thanks for such a positive post! I suppose I didn't fully understand just how much the whole thing would involve and it's a little overwhelming but we really want a baby.. I'm trying to keep positive, just hoping everything works and we get our baby. I didn't realise exactly how much time and effort it takes, considering going part time temporarily in my job just to relieve some stress while we go through the process.

My partner runs, takes vitimins lots of zinc and another one I can't spell haha, he seems to have had this issue since puberty. Just hoping they find good quality sperm and that i am able to conceive with the ivf

It's just daunting, I over think a lot haha

@physicskate yeah, we're expecting an invitation to it after our next appointment and to sign our consent and funding forms

@Mellisa1215 This poster is a spammer advertising their dodgy clinic. I'm sorry they are targeting you but they have been all over this board for nearly a year now, they get banned soon enough but don't believe a word they say, they are lying about who they are.

What is it with these spammers and their absolute obsession with 'unbalanced' hormones'? It's so weird!

And why do they insist on calling people “dear one” etc?! It’s bad enough being stuck on the board without being spoken to as if you’re 90.

Hi Melissa,

We were referred to a fertility clinic in Jan 2017. Took a few months for our first appointment but by May 2017 we had had our tests and knew our issues were male factor and they referred us for IVF.

After this, we had to wait until early Sept 2017 purely so I could lose weight to reduce my BMI to qualify for NHS funding. Otherwise I expect the next step would have been very quick.

As it was I did lose the weight in time and once signed off for funding it was an immediate start. We were able to ring up the following month once AF arrived to see if we would be accepted for treatment (the clinic said during busy times they could decline my request 2 times, so essentially 2 months).

However they accepted us that month (Oct 2017) and so that was our 'prep' month. We started IVF the following month for 'short protocol' and at the end of Nov had the transfer. Turned out despite male factor, DH had a good enough sample on the day for IVF instead of ICSI.

It vastly depends on the clinic and the area you live in, but it can really be that quick!

I'm now 15 weeks pregnant from that first NHS cycle

In the run up to IVF, the only extra thing I did and throughout was to take conception vitamins.

I think the best thing you can do is try to relax and remain as stress free as possible. Folic acid levels need to be optimum and make sure you are consuming at least 2 litres daily (helps with your lining and implantation). Exercise is also a good idea.

Ours is male factor too, no spermatozoa, all tests for hormones and scans came back normal so they left it as unexplained as to why there are none. We will be looking at the TESE route.
