Semen analysis
Redrosebelle · 12/01/2018 19:38
Husband has just had his semen analysis back which is fantastic apart from an increased viscosity. They are going to repeat the tests in 8 weeks. But does anyone have any idea what this means?? We already have a 3 year old. As I say everything else is well above average. Thanks

I also should say that previously we had a sa done and viscosity was normal, but his results were a lot poorer. He’s lost 6.5 stone since hence I think the dramatic improvement. Have read that dehydration and prostate troubles could cause high viscosity..

It simply means the semen is slightly thicker which may hinder sperm movement. Keeping hydrated will certainly help.
Anecdotally guanefensian (so), which is an expectorant in cough medicine can help loosen up semen if it's a major problem

Thanks so much for your reply. We’ve actually only been ttc 5 months and conceived our 3 year old in 11 cycles. His last sa had poor progressive motility however this one has excellent progressive motility and everything is on the highest of the ends of normal. He did have a d&v bug 2 weeks prior and was rough all over Christmas so maybe he was dehydrated. Thank you again!
