Anyone been there for egg freezing/ IUI/ IVF?

I had a quick look of costings and they look roughly comparable to the London Women's Clinic where I've had my initial fertility tests done....or Kings a bit more expensive for some things.

I'm wondering what people's experience has been?

It seems things have changed at King's Fertility since people last posted on here. Apart from having a beautiful new building! So in case anyone is looking for up to date info, and bare in mind this is only my opinion and my experience, this is what Kings was for us in August 2021.

  • no assigned consultant for any treatment, or rather we were assigned but then he decided to go on holiday for all of our treatment, so never saw him again after the first consultation. And all scans were done by completely different doctors, so imagine about 15 scans, all by different people, different nurses, different rooms.
  • all the nurses were lovely, especially the ones in theatre.
  • the reception team were polite but not friendly and you get the spanish inquisition at the front desk about your covid status and whether its necessary for both partners to be there before he will let you into the department.
  • the process information was different depending on who you spoke to (admin team, consultant, nurse)
  • the first consultation gave us completely different advice for treatment compared to the second one, leaving us in the dark as to which one to choose.
  • they had a statement in our implications counselling form which asked if we had a male influence for our child, very out dated and discriminatory question, even adoption agencies aren't allowed to ask that now!
  • the beautiful new building they have created can't seem to maintain their soap dispensers so the toilet used by women doing urine samples never has any soap in it!
  • the egg collection procedure was rushed and chaotic
  • the embryo transfer procedure was done by a nervous looking man who didn't give any information about what he was doing and caused a lot of pain with the speculum innecessarily.
  • Both procedures should have been done by my consultant, but, oh yes, he was on holiday!
  • And all these issues were raised in a formal complaint which was never followed up by the complaints manager.

So therefore, regardless of our outcome, we have 10 days to wait to find out, I would not recommend them.

I do know 2 people that have used them with slightly better experiences so as said, it is just my opinion and my experience.

Hi, I just wanted to bump this thread as I'm thinking of using Kings for IVF/ICSI and was just wondering what others' experiences have been. Has anyone used them in the last few years?

Zibidee · 03/04/2023 14:31

See my previous msg above.
We do now have a lovely 10mth old and two embryos in the freezer for the future but I wouldn't go there again.

Thanks @Zibidee , glad your treatment was successful (despite your negative experience) and congratulations on your baby!
May I ask what treatment protocol you were on?
I've had an initial consultation with them and was recommended IVF with ICSI but I'm not sure whether I should stay with them or go elsewhere. Location wise, they are the most convenient for me, so just trying to weigh up whether it would be worth the hassle to go elsewhere. How often did you have to go in for appointments?
