What's the treatment for low progesterone?

I have been researching this online and can't seem to find anything official, only anecdotal. Does anyone know what the treatment is for low progesterone? Mine is very low, too low to sustain a pregnancy but I do ovulate.

They usually give a form of progesterone (can't remember whether it's the synthetic or natural one) to you in a tablet for the first 3 months. They thought I had low progesterone after 2 mc, and bleeding even during the successful pregnancy. Still bled using the progesterone, but baby was fine.

Thanks for replying that's reassuring that there is treatment offered- I didn't know if it was just "one of those things" and they wouldn't treat it.

From my experience it will need a gynaeo consultant to prescribe, rather than a GP.

Thank you that's really helpful X

I don't know what the deal is in terms of accessing progesterone in a non IVF situation. But as part of my IVF treatment, my progesterone levels were a bit low post embryo transfer, so I had various progesterone tablets, pessaries and injections for the first 3-4 months.

I had progesterone suppositories after three miscarriages in a row. I had an OB/GYN and he prescribed them. They had to be made by a lab and I had to drive miles to get them. Result - DS, I am happy to say. I took them for several weeks before getting pg and several weeks afterwards.

Mine was a non-IVF situation. We were referred to the gynae following 2 mc, and progesterone tablets were prescribed.

I had to have injections of progesterone in my bum for the first three months.

The treatment of low progesterone includes taking of oral medication, creams, gels, suppositories or vaginal rings. As for me, I use medication in the form of gel, Pregestogel. I started my treatment resently, so I can't say anything about result yet.

Mine was for ivf, taken orally and as a suppository for the first four months (16 weeks). I started to reduce the amount i was taking daily around the 12 week mark after my scan once we’d seen that the placentas were ok and working, and stopped completely at 16 weeks.
