Day 6 blastocysts?

We are about to embark on our final FET in Jan and we have 2 x day 6 blastocysts. They are both being transferred as our consultant didn't seem to hold out much hope for them.

We've only ever had day 5 blastocysts transferred before now. Has anybody else had day 6 embryos put in successfully (or not successfully)? There's not much information on the internet about them.

Hi,
I had a 6 day FET a few months ago. Unfortunately, it was unsuccessful. But the embryo was still good quality, just slightly smaller. It was a 3BB instead of 4BB. The Hospital seemed to think that there is still a good chance with 6 day FET.

Good luck for your transfer

Sorry yours didn't work out BeHereNow31. Wishing you luck in whatever's next too. It's interesting that your clinic thought it had a good chance though. It gives me a bit of hope (although it's a shame different clinics seem to dish out different advice).

x

I had one FET day 6 4BB blast that failed, and one FET day 6 5BB hatching blast that was successful.

Thanks AgainPlease. Good to hear it can be successful. One of ours is 5bb, so fingers crossed.

Hi, I’m also having a day 6 FET in January and have been told that it has a good chance, mine is a 5AB so very similar to yours. I’m really hoping this is the one and I wish the best of luck too.

My day 6 blastocyst is sitting next to me eating her dinner, she's almost 3 now. She was my only surviving embryo from a fresh cycle - all my follicles were slow growing so they figured leaving it til day 6 was better than day 5. I have no idea what grade it was though.

FlipperSkipper · 10/12/2017 18:37

My day6 blastocyst is now 10 months old. I had no hope as they weren't developed enough to freeze on day 5, but thankfully the clinic kept them going and froze them. Good luck!

Flipper can I ask is your dc and girl or boy? There is an interesting theory that girls develop slower than boys.

Great to hear some success stories. Ours are 5ba and 5bb and when our very conservative consultant said to put them both back in because of the reduced chances, I felt a bit deflated. Good luck for your transfer 79Karen. It sounds like we're on a very similar timeline.

They sound great quality. I think you've got a considerable chance of twins so sth to bear in mind if you decide between transferring 1 or 2. With the reduced chances, was he referring to other health problems, thin lining or sth? When transferred on day 5, your embryos will have the same chance as day 5 blasts of the same grade.

Thanks for the reply JoJoSM2. We were very lucky to have a successful 1st fresh round of IVF (DD is 2 yrs old). But, since then, we've had recurrent miscarriages (fresh and frozen) at around 6 weeks. I've just had a test for uNK cells and, if that comes back positive, they'll medicate this FET with steroids. Maybe that's why our consultant seems to hold little hope. She's been very conservative until now, so we were surprised when she recommended we put both back at the same time.

That's great that you're on meds for NK cells. Good luck in Jan!

Thanks. This far down the line, I know I can't pin all my hopes on it, but it's hard work not to!

As I had a lot of fertilised eggs on 3rd cycle the clinic played with two and both went to 6 days

They froze and we used one for our 4th attempt tho didn’t succeed

The other is still frozen

I think the more days they are the better they can tell how good they embryo is due to the cells

But with all ivf it’s hit and miss if works or not

But don’t think a 6 days has less chance

notpastaagain · 13/12/2017 13:45

Thanks Blondeshavemorefun. My opinion has definitely changed on day 6 blastocysts. Good luck for your last frozen embryo.

Tbh we aren’t going to use

We have our miracle daughter after 10yrs ttc and 5 ivf

Thinknwe have 3 frozen 1 6day and 2 5day left but will donate to medical science

FlipperSkipper · 14/12/2017 10:55

@79Karen he's a boy. Interesting theory though!

OP he was a 4aa. We still have a 5bb in storage but I think our family is complete.
