Can I get private progesterone test? Clinic don't do it before FET

Hi all. Sorry - another progesterone question from me my clinic don't check my progesterone - haven't had it checked (as far as I'm aware) since my day 21 tests to get referred to fertility clinic 2 ivf cycles ago!! I'm an early bleeder (never make it to test day) and really want to test my progesterone before my next FET and in 2ww to learn something if it fails again. Is there a company who'll do this? Based near Woking in Surrey but can do London. Thanks.

I’m not sure where to check it near Woking. However, in London there are labs where you can self refer - Google should help. Or perhaps you could ask your GP? I know my clinic tested progesterone on the morning of FET and wanted to see over 50. If you get a bfp, they re-test it along with thyroid.

Or will your clinic do it if you pay extra?

I'll ask them again but they already think I'm nuts I think!! Will ask them if they test morning of transfer but don't think they do which seems mad to me.

Has the clinic got good success rates? They don’t sound too good... I know that my clinic test the progesterone and if it’s low, they immediately put you on progesterone injections.

Medichecks do a good private service by mail. I've not used them for progesterone but have had a number of other tests off them. Looks like their progesterone test just requires a finger prick blood sample which is easy and you do it yourself. Note that your GP may not be interested in results that have not come from his approved lab so if you're thinking of a private test to influence his treatment you might be disappointed, for personal information it's a good option though.

If you’re near Woking there’s a private GP surgery at Brooklands near Weybridge called Prime Health. They do blood tests and will probably do one for you. I was lucky that my GP did me a form for a cd2 estrodial test and would have done others too. He’s also filled an online phlebotomy form for my 12dpet (day post embryo transfer) hcg level check - I just need to book the appointment for the appropriate day!!

Could be worth calling a few ivf clinics near to where you are to ask - we did ivf abroad and needed my progesterone testing and managed to find an ivf clinic an hour away that did same day testing for £30. We live out in the countryside so I'm sure in London it'll be easier to find one!

@JoJoSM2 sorry just wanted to check, over 50? I’m in the north and from chatting on a different thread it still seems progesterone testing is still not done everywhere (certainly for NHS) anyway. I’m in 2ww of NHS FET (or rather, my friend/surrogate is with our embryo on board) & her progesterone was tested before & they wanted only transfer at 30 or above the day before, hers was bang on 30 but as we only have 2 embryos & I can unlikely get more due to cancer they still put her on injections “just to be sure”but they said they wouldn’t usually! & we were on long protocol.

50 seems very high! I would maybe worry therefore for ppl who don’t have it tested routinely?? Can’t belkeve it is needs to be so high it’s not part of every treatment, fresh or FET?

Minster, my dr said that they were looking for 50 at least. Mine was a FET and progesterone on the day of transfer was 107. If it’s lower than what they want, they add the injections. However, I’m with a very successful private clinic so perhaps they like higher levels than necessary just to make sure. This is the only clinic I’ve ever had a transfer with and I haven’t done any research/reading so my comment is based literally on what my dr said when I had the transfer last month.

I think it sounds really good that they put your surrogate on injections to make sure. I do hope it works out for you.

Oh wow ok, 107 that’s very high! And you are pregnant as a result? Well I’m pleased they gave her extra and checked it, we’ll have to see! From reading other things and what they said about “if it’s less than 30 we consider it a waste of an embryo” I’m very surprised it’s not done routinely & we would always ensure we have it checked if this doesn’t work & we our other doesn’t work & we have to use donor eggs in the future. I will bear what you say in mind, it does seem more important than they make out (but maybe they didn’t want to worry us!).

Hopefully it won’t get to that! We’ll just keep on waiting 😁
