Hycosy booked in and DP arranged time off work to come with me. Only today when we were talking about it we realised I'd assumed he was coming into the procedure with me and he'd assumed he'd be waiting outside!

So did your DP actually come in with you?!

Hi. Mine waited in the waiting room. Having had it done I don't think there really would have been room for him in there and actually it would have felt like he was in the way and a bit awkward. Best of luck for your hycosy.

No, he couldn't as was at work. A friend came with me and waited outside.
Mine ended up being really tricky nearly hour long process so I wish my H had been in there, but I know most people breeze on and out in 15 minutes with no issues whatsoever. "Similar to a smear" I've heard!

Does he sit with you when you’re getting a filling at the dentist’s?

It’s so nice that he’s being supportive and coming, but it might be best if he waits outside unless you’re super nervous? The nurses when I had my HSG were lovely and guided me through it, my DH couldn’t come but he would have been a bit of a spare part there in the room.

Understandably not everyone finds medical investigations a breeze, so go with your gut! X

Totally agree, do what is right for you! Remember that everyone here will be judging it based on their own experience.
I would never even consider him coming to a smear or a filling. He did come when I had 3 wisdom teeth out at the dentist years ago (local pain relief) and it wasn't necessary. He went a bit 🤢 from the blood and I was fine. My hycosy experience was not even comparable. It was the worst procedure I have ever had by miles (Inc 2 cycles of IVF, with various catheters and scratches). But I know from talking to friends that was extremely unusual and it really is no biggie at all for most people. If that had been my experience I would probably be saying nah bit overkill having him come in unless he really wants to.

But if he's interested and wants to be part of it and there's room (the room I was in was huge), then what's the problem? It's not just about the pain or complications, it's nice for both parties to be involved of they can and want to.
Equally, if he's outside and you need him, you can always ask him to be called in. I didn't feel I could do that with my friend, being stark bollock naked from the waist down! 😁

Mine attended with me. We we both took the day off work- I wanted to go in on my own, and he was going to wait in reception to drive me home and provide tea/hot water bottles while I installed myself on the sofa.

When I went in and was getting ready for the procedures, the consultant actually asked if I wanted my partner in with me, I suddenly realised that I did, so they called him in. He was his usual quiet, stoic self, and held my hand throughout but it was more painful than I anticipated so I was pleased to have him with me, and his hand to squeeze/squash when I needed to.

It was also good to have him there as the consultant explained the scans as they were taking place, as I would not have remembered all the detail that was covered. Finally, I think it helped seeing me going through what he saw as quite an invasive procedure (men not being used to the joy of regular smear tests, like women are!!), as it made him realise how hard physically infertility treatment and investigation can be for women (compared to thier male partners) in terms of the numbers of tests, checks, procedures, needles and pills we have to endure. I do not think it was a coincidence that after having the paperwork for two months, my other half finally booked and went for his sperm test 24 hours after he accompanied me during my HyCoSy....
