Does the NHS give pre 12 dating scan for IVF babies?

Hello, just wondering if you conceive a baby through IVF, do the NHS provide an early scan or would the first scan be the 12 weeks dating scan? Thanks

A friend undergoing ivf was told a scan at 5 weeks would determine if implantation had occurred properly. .

I think it depends upon your area. I had a scan at 6 weeks because I fell pregnant after 6 months of clomid. The clomid was through the NHS.

Depends on your area I think. We didn't have IVF but friends told us they were given an early scan at around 6-8 weeks to check implantation? We had a late loss in a previous pregnancy and were offered an early scan at around 7-8 weeks this time around.

Private scans are also not very expensive btw, but beware that most will not find a heartbeat before 7 weeks so it may just cause more worry than waiting would!

Congratulations avocado!!! I am delighted to read this!! I would have thought your clinic should scan you at around 6.5 weeks to confirm clinical pregnancy (heartbeat). This is where they get their success rate stats from. Since we're with a clinic abroad we weren't entitled to an early scan in UK, but I had one at 6+2 on NHS due to slight bleed. I think your clinic should do one for you. We then had a private scan on Saturday just gone at 9 weeks, as I'm too impatient and anxious to wait for 12 week one...
I'll warn you now, be prepared for time to go soooooo slowly now! I remember thinking I'd been pregnant for weeks before my OTD even rolled round! I'm delighted for you, huuuuge congratulations 🎊

Can only comment for our personal NHS funded IVF. Dk if all clinics do this. Or if it's to do with specific funding arrangements by our CCG.

We are currently pregnant. Had a confirmatory blood test around 18dp5dt. Then a scan at ~7.5 weeks and at ~9.5 weeks, all at IVF clinic.

Then discharge to regular NHS mat services and ~12 week scan

Also the early scan isn't for dating because with IVF you know exactly how old the pregnancy is. You don't need a scan to determine dates.
The first scan was to check implantation had occurred (rather than rely on blood test which might confuse a chemical pregnancy with actual pregnancy) and see heart beat all okay.
The second one I think is just to make sure it's still all progressing okay and the foetus is growing at appropriate rate, HR still on target. Etc.

Thanks everyone, the clinic is due to call me on Sunday (OTD) so I can ask then but sounds hopeful and and least we could book a private scan if not.

Scottish.... I finally made it! It feels so surreal! I'd been convinced these last few days that I actually am pregnant but still such a shock when you see those two lines. Did all go well at your scan? X

Yes all was good thanks and measured two days ahead which was rather surprising! Think measurements at 9 weeks can still be a bit out. I'm very anxious all the time and can't enjoy it at all. Think that comes with infertility and ivf I guess.

Nhs ivf clinic did scan at approx 7w.

The 12w dating scan used their length measurements for dating despite it being ivf pregnancy. So dd2 they were saying was overdue 13 days and nearly ready to induce, but was really only about 7 days

My NHS IVF clinic gave me a scan at 6.5 weeks. I then paid for a private one elsewhere at 9ish weeks.

I had a scan at 8 weeks with my IVF. You tend to get an early one as with IVF were more likely to have chemical pregnancies, with all the medication and hormones pumped in to us. They call it a reassurance scan.

As others said if ivf you will get a scan 6ish weeks to check sac and heart

Some will do a 9/10w then it's the usual NHS of 12- 20 w

Tho we also paid for extra due to worry so had 10 16 29/30 pro site 3D

And NHS every 3w due to being high risk. Tbh being consistent led and high risk was fine and very reassuring ro see baby every 3w

I had private IVF and had a scan at the clinic before being discharged to the usual NHS care which started with my 12 week scan and booking in appointment.
