Hello everyone,

After long year of fighting with GP and other health professionals, we are having our first IVF appointment.

Little background: my husband was diagnosed with azoospermia and had micro tese in July. They found sperm and n now frozen and waiting. Our first appointment for IVF treatment is in October. Sperm is frozen in different hospital.

What should we expect at this first appointment? Is anyone in the same place of their journey?

I appreciate any input.
Thank you
m

Also, is there anything else i could do/bring to the appointment to speed up the process? Are there any specific blood tests that i should do?(already have amh)
Thank you

Hi

So from what I remember at the first appointment they review any tests you have already had (and then usually order more anymore) and book you in for any other relevant tests. Will probably redo Amh and other bloods. From what you have said there would be no point doing a hsg or sperm test. After that you have another appointment in about 8 weeks where they decide what treatment you need and if you are having NHS treatment put you on the waiting list. With the Homerton is always worth calling to see if you can get a cancellation appt

Hope that helps

Hi

Thank you. I didn't realise there is another waiting list. Do you know how long does it usually takes?

Thanks again x

Hi

At the start of this year the waiting list for NHS treatment was 8 months. Not sure if it makes a difference what CCG you are. I know that has an impact on the number of cycles they will offer

The nurses and consultants are all really lovely
Good luck

DippyDeeeee thank you. I am just at the beginning of research, don't even know what kind of treatments are available for me. It is all bit overwhelming.

Thank you

Hi me and my partner have attended the information evening and we have our first appointment at homerton next week. Could you let me know what we can expect on the day and if they will test us for smoking on that day?

Hi 👋 I have my first appointment for IVF with the nurses at Homerton end of this week, anyone know what I should expect in terms of weighing or any blood tests to be done. I'm very nervous

Hi all, I had my IVF cycles at Homerton, from what i remember I had to have my AMH blood test and my husband had his sperm analysis before we met with the consultant. On our first meeting with the consultant he went through our results and his suggested course of treatment. We were then advised we’d be on a waiting list but I can’t remember how long we had to wait until we could cycle , think it was 6 months but then covid hit and we had to wait longer. My advise would be to make sure you make notes during your appointment and note your results down. Do a bit of research online and write down any questions you want answered before hand. Good luck all
