Hi all, I'm due to start my very first IVF cycle this week and need to contact the nurses on day 1 of my cycle.

Usually I get some brown discharge a day or two before my AF but I normally count day 1 of my cycle as the first day of actual bleeding. Is this what you do? And should I wait for this before I contact the hospital?

Thanks in advance, may be a bit of a silly question but wanted to check as I'm nervous and I don't want to mess things up at this early stage!Blush

I'm fairly sure the first day of proper flow is counted as day 1. You could akways ring nurses to check though?

Good luck with your cycleSmile

Day one is the day you wake up bleeding, my clinic says. So if period starts properly at lunchtime today, day one is tomorrow. Not sure if that's how it works everywhere, but presume so. Good luck!

According to my IVF clinic, it depends what time of day your period starts properly.

  1. It counts as properly when there is enough blood to warrant using sanitary products rather than barely there/brown/smidge of blood but nothing more for a bit.

2. If it starts properly before midday or started overnight then today is Day 1. If it starts after midday, then it counts as starting tomorrow (ie tomorrow is Day 1). Smile
