Infertility
Exercise & TTC! Help please!

Hi me and my partner have been ttc for over 2yrs now with no BFP! All the tests (urine/bloods/sperm) and ultrasounds and HSG have been done with no outcome. have gynae appt in a fortnight so pretty nervous!
I really want to get back into fitness not only to lose a bit timber but mostly to help my mood (like a lot of mumsnet users fed up with friends/family with baby news) but scared incase something bad happens?
I would make an appt at gp but takes weeks to get one. Can anyone advise? Thanks in advance!

Hi,
I'm not an expert but did used to work at a gym so this is only what I have heard from knowing a lot of fitness instructors/reading myself. Basically they say you shouldn't start anything new when pregnant but it is ok to carry on with previous stuff. If TTC I would say you are ok to start doing exercise and build up slowly and then when you get a BFP perhaps speak with a qualified PT for advice on how to adapt your exercise. Personally at my appointments with fertility clinic they have only been pleased to hear I have started going to the gym.
Best of luck for your appointment in a couple of weeks.

sounds like really good advice. Be good to focus on something else other than fertility for a change! Thank you, best of luck to you too! Xox

If anything, exercise will help fertility, e.g. better blood supply to the uterus, possibly help balance hormones, make your body stronger and more pregnancy ready etc I think the key is to do it gradually. For example, start exercising three times a week with a proper warm-up and stretching etc Also, sessions of 30-60 mins will be long enough.
It could only backfire if you start over exercising and unde eating etc

Thanks jojosm2! Yeah, totally makes sense getting back into the fitness again. Really good advice about healthy uterus etc My mood is much better and was good to get out of my head for a bit! I agree moderation is definitely the best way! Thanks and good luck to you! Xox

Exercise is good for TTC, no need to worry :) The problem in pregnancy is because your muscles, joints etc are more flexible than normal so you can get injured more easily, it doesn't apply when TTC and being fitter can only improve your chances, help you prepare for (hopefully) childbirth etc.

Thanks BertieBotts! Yeah I've been doing gradual cardio and weights at the gym. Doing a little yoga too and feeling a lot better!
Thanks for ur advice means a lot! Xox
