Have 3 eggs that are fertilized. Is this any good?

Hi folks.

I am booked in for embryo transfer on Thursday. My clinic say that they won't/don't check the embryos in between fertilisation and transfer as it increases the chances on them surviving to day 5 blasts.

I can't seem to find out of this is a good position or not? The clinic aren't giving much away. I can't seem to find any stats around how many fertilised eggs survive to day 5.
Thanks!

My guess would be that they are trying to improve their stats - number of pregnancies per embryo transfer. As blasts are more likely to implant, they want you to wait until then.

With three fertilised eggs, I think that most clinics would do a day 2 or day 3 transfer as by day 5 you might have nothing left. Having said that, if your embryo(s) make it it day 5/6, you'll have a very good chance of pregnancy. Whether it is possible for an embryo to die off along the way in the lab but survive in the uterus, is debatable and cannot be proven one way or the other for obvious reasons.

On the stats front, some couples never get to blast and others end up with 10 good blasts out of one cycle. It depends on your age, sperm quality, how well the protocol agreed with you and how good the lab itself is. The average tends to be 30-50% or fertilised eggs but it does vary widely, literally 0-90/100%.

I don't know the stats but I can offer an encouraging story if that helps? We had 4 out 4 fertilise and they planned a day 2 transfer due to low numbers. Our clinic uses embryoscope-constant camera- and each day it got pushed back as they were all still going. We had a day 5 blast transferred and two good enough to go in the freezer. And now I'm pregnant!

A bit surprised they aren't checking if they should do a day 2 or 3 transfer but as pp said if they get to day 5 you have a great chance.

Good luck!

If here is less than 5 embryos they absolutely should be checking on them. If they start to deteriorate you may not have 1 that makes it to day 5. The more embryos the higher the chance. Sounds like they are doing it for statistics. Sorry. With just 3 fertilised I would be begging for a 3 day transfer.

I've had 2 cycles

8 eggs
4 fertilised embryos
3 embryos at day3 so I had a single day3 transfer. The other 2 died before day 5.
Pregnant but miscarriage

11 eggs
8 fertilised embryos
6 embryos at day3 so clinic allowed them to go to day5.
5 embryos at day 5. Single transfer resulting in my son. Other 4 day5 embryos are frozen.

Thank you!

So, have one Blastocyst (4BB) that's been transferred today. They are observing the others for 1 more day to check suitability for freezing. All good so far. Thanks all.
