Losing weight to start IVF

I have 6lbs to lose before we can begin our NHS cycle of IVF

My total loss at that point will be 34lbs Grin

As you can imagine we're really excited/nervous to get started but my concern is what if I put on a few lbs with the hormones in the IVF process?

Are you weighed again at any point during/after a cycle?

I plan to continue losing weight but I'd hate to get started too soon only to be stalled by a few lbs fluctuating weight?

I wasn't weighed. I started at 18 stone lost 5 and started IVF. Put back on a half during the cycle. Waited a year to lose another 3 stone now starting my FET cycle.

Well done on your loss so far. They won't weigh you I promise!!!

Thank you so much for your response.

We've been offered 3 full cycles (cycles include unlimited FETs) it's enormously generous and we're so grateful.

Did they weight you again before your FET?

No they didn't. I told the clinic that I'm now 65kg just in case it effected the amount of medicine they gave me! I didn't want to overdose Grin

They never asked me at all. That's an amazing package you're getting! I really hope it works for you x

That's so helpful thank you! Eased my worrying quite a bit!

Hopefully won't need to use up that much of the CCG's resources but such a nice feeling to have a good amount of tries open to us.

Good luck on your FET, fingers crossed it works Flowers

I did get weighed before I even saw the NHS consultant.

I think you're doing very well. I'd just keep on losing though so you don't stress about getting weighed and increase your chance of success too.

Hi i'm also dieting to qualify for IVF (we need ICSI as my fiancé has a very low sperm count) have you been told to lose the weight before being put on the waiting list or to start treatment? We were told I've to lose the weight before being put on the waiting list which is 6-9 months long and i'm almost 38, we would only qualify if i'm under 40 so time is an issue! Good luck, you'll lose those last few pounds in no time :)

They only weigh you before the cycle, not during or after.
I have put on half a stone during this cycle. If it doesn't work I will lose it again before i do an fet.

Hi gtawifetobe , there isn't a waiting list for IVF in my CCG so as soon as the weight is off we can begin.

On my paperwork they've already signed us off to have treatment, it just had a note about weight to lose before it begins. I pre-empted this (as had read the policy before being referred) and began weightloss before.
