Wonky cycle.... GP or wait it out?

I have (alas) inherited my mother's erratic cycles. Currently charting a period every 60 days or so. We've been TTC for almost a year and I'm surrounded by friends and family who all appear to have gotten pg by seemingly clicking their fingers (naive and ignorant I know but that's how it seems from my slightly bitter view!). I saw a locum GP a while ago who told me to come back in 2 years if no success. After discussing with my hubster, and checking the NICE guidelines/CCG recs for infertility in my area, I'm tempted to go back to my normal (lovely) GP.
Bit scared of being told just to wait it out for another year again though. What are people's thoughts?

Get the balling rolling asap. The investigations and so on take time so definitely go now. People can try for a year and then the gp can do the basic initial tests.

Yes, go now. With cycles that long you may not be ovulating and you are getting half the chances of other women.

I really hope you've got a lovely gp who's really helpful.

I remember going to see a locum who told me it was normal to have no periods and then three weeks of bleeding. And that I needed to let things 'settle down' and it can be 'normal' for cycles to be erratic.

He annoyed me so much I refused to leave and made him get a consultation. I ended up with loads of tests which then started me on a path to fertility treatment (and two lovely DCs in the end).

If there is no sign of underlying problems they will send you away as 90% of something of people naturally conceive in 12 months. However if there are signs that you do NOT have a normal cycle they can do all sorts of simple blood tests to see what is going on.
